260K base HHI and no debt. What is the max you would spend on housing? Take home is $11,000 after maxing out all tax-advantaged accounts. I was thinking $4000 a month, but not sure if it is too aggressive.

Husband and I are almost exactly the same. Mortgage is $1900, utilities/house bills are around $750ish. We could go higher but we like saving money each month too. We also have a daughter so we are paying a daycare bill as well.

like

Thanks for including how much you spend on utilities. I think I need to adjust my numbers

You can afford it. Truth is, you’ll probably make more money as you progress through your career and wonder why you didn’t spend more on a house. Or at least that’s what happened to us, despite being FIRE proponents.

If you can figure out how to optimize for housing (cost/location/size) your other expenses are negligible or very variable based on your comfort level. Our housing is 5% HHI and prolly too far on 1 end of the spectrum, but was close to 20% when we bought. 2 kids in daycare and their bill is 2x our mortgage. If daycare bills are on the horizon factor those in, they’re no joke expensive. Think 1,200-2,000 per child/mo depending on age & COL

I have a question. I have 80k in student loans. I picked the option knowing I will pay 200-300 every month for 30 years. This amount is totally doable given my salary. Why are people so opposed to this type of arrangement this is much better than paying 1-2k every month for a much shorter period.

Hi guys
I am from EY india
I have declared my investments in tax declaration portal , still I see in monthly salary that there is huge tax deduction.
In my previous organization, once I declared my investments in the tax portal , then my salary was very less affected by tax deduction.
But in ey india , I don't see any effect after declaring my investments.
Kindly help me how to declare investments so that there will be less tax deductions from my salary .

My clients are pushing back on it this year, and I can't say I blame them. If I were in their shoes, I'd rather take the risk of not filing than the expense of filing again. From my own point of view, I don't really want to spend my time on such returns, either, even if the revenue and easy return are nice.

Is there a definitive guide to cost of living? The obvious cost of living centers (SF, NYC, LA etc.) get covered a lot, but I’m wondering where my city falls. It’s a modest Midwest city with ~100k residents but is a relatively touristy spot. It often feels like a MCOL area but I’m not sure how to adequately judge that, and it would be helpful to know when comparing salaries and the like.

I would like to hit fire between 40-50. Currently 27, 185k total comp (125 for me and 60 for partner). Like my job don’t hate it don’t love it. Does an MBA make sense? I’m guessing it could take me to 170ish with that schools I’m looking at but wondering if the 40-50 retirement range makes an mba not make sense since I’d only have 10-20 years to save vs 12-22.

Would have to finance the whole thing myself. Current net worth is 140k. Thoughts?

Advice and tips for a first time rental property investor?

I’d like to save up around $50K in my HYSA for a property <$400K in LI. Does this sound reasonable?

Does anyone have any advice on investing in the LI area (best location, SFH v MFH) or just general first time rental property buying advice?

How concerned are you about inflation? We have 70% savings rate and 50% of our expenses are housing / utilities of which the largest part is rent which is a fixed contract (no CPI escalation, no automatic increases, paying same rent for 4 years). No car as we are living in a large city. So if I look at the components of CPI and what’s rising I am feeling pretty „good“ about it. The one thing I am „worried“ is asset inflation but obviously that benefits me directly. What am I missing?
