27F I want to steal my boss position50M. I am much better then him at what I am doing and while deputising everyone feels I am managing better then him. What should I do?

As someone who unexpectedly was thrust into their bosses role, I will never assume I am better or smarter than anyone above me again.

Is your boss incompetent? Maybe. But don’t assume you truly know what his day to day is like. For me, there were a lot of unforeseen stressors. And in order for me to be better than they were, I had to take on all the things they were falling short on. The significant increase in responsibility was soul crushing. And while I rose to the occasion, I left a year later.

I have a lot of empathy for that old boss now. Even though I still think they weren’t right for the job.

The truth! Happened to me once. I must say I never resented my old boss like the OP was doing. But I always wondered what he did with his time until I got his job. It was a whole new level of relationship building, accountability, targets, expectations, and scrutiny from higher level leadership. Good luck OP!

Learn the difference between ‘then’ and ‘than’.

Right?! Also curious if 27F is talking about an immediate boss or a few rungs up the ladder. Why not negotiate a promotion, new title, increased pay first?

I am a 12 year old and want to steal my bosses (27F) future job as soon as she steals her bosses (50M) job. I’m much better than both of them and will outsource everything, saving money and living the life of a #tweenboss.

I wish people over the age of 21 who aren’t already rich would just stop pretending their not failures and retire already.

😳🙄🤨 ❤️ 🤭😂🤣🤣 🤢👍🙏🎂🦆

And THIS is why Millennials and Gen Z have a bad reputation 💀

likefunnysmarthelpful

Don’t everyone in the same bag.
I’m probably more X or pre-X gen minded.
This said, reputation is a thing « guard it with your life » as a famous reading says.

People are not solely paid for hours, they are paid for results. We should remember that too.

Imagine being a bystander colleague who is eating popcorn while observing this person going to the board members asking for a job takeover.

Try learning to write in English, for starters. “I am much better than he [is] at what I am doing…”. “I am managing better than he [is]”.

What is “deputising”???

Until you can demonstrate some competence, don’t demonstrate your incompetence.

likefunnysmart

Sounds like some kind of delegation or authority transfer. Basically managing.

^ lol good one.

I just wanted to add on to my original reply that instead of trying to steal someone’s position you could seek out genuine mentorship from them or another industry professional of that level. If you feel undervalued or mistreated then leave and leverage your experience for a higher position elsewhere.

Is just funny how people think that being young and having less experience is actually a disadvantage.

It's "boss'" or "boss's" and "than" not "then." Good luck with whatever mission you're on.

Exactly, I would never operate under the assumption that someone will be fired because I’m doing better than they are, either deal with the dissonance by getting promoted somewhere new or take the other path and don’t work harder than he is 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m finding the latter is a more comfortable approach, since your boss really can’t be mad if he’s not working hard either 😅

We all think we are better than we actually are. Sometimes bosses deal with a huge amount behind the scenes, and you don't get to see that side. It's great to be ambitious and ballsy - go for it and interview for similar roles and see what happens - but also have some humility and learn from others. You cannot possibly know everything with one decade of experience.

You see tasks.

You don't see the trust relationships forged with his peer level, with leadership levels, you don't see your boss 'managing up', maintaining an even keel for their team.

Management often looks like ducks - looks all serene and easy, yet paddling like mad under the surface.

Build a relationship with your boss - be mentored by them, find out what they really are doing - you don't know what you don't know. Often their no1 value is they've proven themselves time and again in a crisis. Get access to develop your own trust relationships with leadership.

Only then make your attempt to gut them like a fish.

Ok guys, you convinced me!!! Will do it tomorrow. I will try my best to not let you down! 😅 RIP boss

How much is too much for rent percentage wise? I’m currently paying 30% of my take home pay for rent+bills in a 3-bed house share but thinking of getting a 1-bed. The ones I’ve found are 45-50% (incl bills) of net pay, is that excessive? I could wait till the next promo but it would be next year at best and thinking to take advantage of the renter’s market at the moment.
