2nd year female associate &I have a new baby. I’m scheduled to go out of town for busy season but my dad is sick and my parents keep my baby. Can I tell them I can’t travel? Or should I find a new job

@jerks above: Dogs are not the same as babies. Anyone can request to not travel and keep their job, but caring for a small human seems like a way better reason than caring for a canine in my opinion. @OP: if they won’t accommodate, you’ll be able to find a job where you are valued and not required to travel! Good luck with your career and parenthood!

Word of advice.....don't have some stranger taking care of your baby!! Nowadays you just can't trust people. I've been in a similar situation and I was re-assigned. Reach out to managers, HR, scheduling, etc. Do what is best for you and your baby! Communication is key. If you don't explain your situation they have no way of knowing and nothing will be done. Best of luck!

I would tell the team you can’t travel. If the value you as a resource, they will find something else for you.

like

You have a lot going on. I would approach someone you trust, who values you and your work, and explain the circumstances. I would think accommodations can be made. Best of luck to you.

like

Good luck OP. For what it’s worth (and this may sound off) you’re not that important to anything PwC is doing that you are needed to be out of town for work. I’m sure they can find you another assignment.

like

Echoing everybody, but they are all big firms and asking to be put on a non travel given everything going on your personal life is a totally reasonable ask and should be accommodated. But say something sooner rather than later, people want to have their busy season teams and schedules locked down at this point in the year.

like

Is there something like that for pets too?

like

@asm1 - thats incredible. Didn't know about that. @op - it sounds like you would be staffed full time out of town? That's just not ok, I have to imagine whoever scheduled you doesn't know your family life.

like

You should tell them the situation. Tell them you’re willing to travel but you don’t know how to make it work with your kid and see what they say

like

Lol my dog is my baby. Just because I don’t have a human child doesn’t mean my personal reasons for not be able to travel are any less significant. That’s the equivalent of saying if you’re single you should work longer hours because you don’t have kids or a family to go home early for dinner with.

like

Do they know about your baby? And is it multiple weeks of traveling? What dicks

like

My dog is cuter than your baby, and certainly better behaved.

like

I love how pet owners think that their dogs require the same level of attention as human children. I have two kids, a dog, and a cat. I can't leave my kids at home, have a neighbor let them out to pee a few times, and not end up in prison. I don't expect anyone without children to actually understand this.

like

I was widowed when my son was 4 and lost my stay at home spouse. Ended up moving to internal job with almost no travel at all (my parents are dead and siblings 3000 miles away). The firm was great and helping to make this work and is really understanding about me not traveling.

like

Deloitte 1. I don’t think asm is misleading. We have backup care and they will send a person into your Home to take care of an elderly family member or child, so I don’t see why you couldn’t have one at your hotel.

like

You only have your kids be little once. You gotta do what’s best for them. It’s hard. Hang in there. I admire you for having a kid at your level. PA is barely tenable at my level with a spouse who works part time, God bless you.

like

I was wondering when the next "dogs are people, too" comments would pop up.

like

@OP - PwC does have back up childcare in most US cities where you can take your baby with you. More info is on the benefits site for working parents.

like

Do you have a counselor or someone you can speak to - if not - go to hr. Agree with Pwc 2 above. However I'm sure some resourcing person will say didn't know - but it's their freaking job to know!

like

^ would be awesome if there was something similar for dogs. It costs me almost about $100 a week to take care of my dog while I am out of town.

Pop Quiz - You have a large family with kids 7 and under. Family time is very important to you and you are financially stable (no mortgage/debt & solid savings). The ultimate goal is to save enough for the kids college, retire early, and travel. Do you choose a higher salary career that involves a lot of travel which takes you away from your family but gets you to your end goal sooner? Or do you take a lower salary career with minimal travel and flexibility to spend time with your family?

Has anyone ever been bullied by their co workers and paras ? I work with a very cliquey staff. I picked the wrong battle and they have been paying me back with all year. I have apologized for not staying in my own lane and gone above and beyond to help this teacher with her IEP paperwork. I’m at a loss.

I've always had issues with it, but since he was high functioning I didn't mind it too much until we recently had a child together. After baby was born, he continues to smoke multiple times a day and didn't have a problem with his family smoking in the house until I called him out and got into a huge fight. Might be a paranoid mom question - my 16 month old is starting daycare next week. So far, I’ve had virtual interviews/meet and greet sessions with the daycare staff. Today we went in for our in-person orientation and I noticed that my child is the only non-white kid in his class of 8. Not entirely shocking, but in my head (and having seen pictures in their catalog) I was hoping there would be a little more diversity. Should I be worried about my kid feeling left out because he looks different?

Currently a second-year associate at a regional firm. I have become really unhappy with the life-style at a firm and the constant stress of meeting my billable requirements. It was always my goal to go in-house, but I know I likely lack the requisite experience to make a move somewhere that can offer meaningful advancement. Any advice? I know it will likely be that I need to “stick it out” for a few more years, but I am just extremely dissatisfied with the prospect of being at a firm for years.

Coming back to D in October after LOA. During that LOA, I was approached by other firms, and received 3 offers. I do want to stay at D but if they cant match the offers I received, I will leave (offers include 30% increase and a promotion). How should I go about this? Do I contact my coach and let him know that I would like to stay but received different offers and I want to know if Deloitte can match them?

Got in touch with a broker, went to see an apartment but that apartment was already rented. The broker had no idea and for all the questions we asked about the apartment, he asked us to check with the leasing manager. The leasing manager told us there was another apartment that was available and we liked it. Now broker is asking for 1 month rent as broker fee. I don’t really think it is justified since we’re directly working with the leasing office now. Thoughts?
