Hi all, recently a recruiter from Amazon reached out for an SDE 2(2+ years of exp. required) role and I'm a recent CS grad. I gave the OA (which was extremely difficult w/ 99% cut-off) and other tasks related to the OA. A few hours back, I got a call from the recruiter that I had cleared the assessment and tasks and said that they are looking for 2+ years of exp. I said I'm open to the SDE1 role and said she'll ask her colleagues. Idk what to expect now 😥 Amazon Amazon India

I see this as a career pivot and a lot of management consultants are not able to make the transition to go full tech PM. Your TC potential and WLB will go up way higher. Don’t think of just the immediate first step, think of your long term goals. As someone who went from Bain to tech, I would take it.
Oh ok cool!! How’s the culture at your series B tech? @Mck7
Prime video is one of the most toxic orgs in Amazon. Lots of turnover, reports and leadership changes each year. If you’re thinking of going, ask to talk to team members about team environment, culture and recent org prioritisation

M9 - what location?
I’m an EM equivalent at KPMG and even I wouldn’t leave for $260 TC 😂…stay where you are. I make more than that now and I’m sure you do too

Can we circle back on kpmg making more than $260K at EM level?

Depends on your age. If you’re post-MBA and early 30s this feels like a poor move.

All else equal ~8 YOE + MBA will have better ops than 4 YOE.

I think only you know your situation and goals and what’s important to you right now. Could be worth it. I left ACN for $270ish in tech, which was better than i was offered at better consulting firms than ACN. Also not in a stage of life where the MBB/tier 2 lifestyle works for me. Maybe it does for you idk.
Just went to Amazon from 2nd year EM at 360k. Look in AWS, comps are higher
Aws has business development roles? What kind of position is that?
If that TC includes your RSUs, then I'd not take it. Immediate cash in hand for positions at the firm is stronger in my opinion
Aren’t you making that much at McK as a second year EM?
A PL2 at BCG is making a min of 215k base + 54k (lowest/target) bonus + 27k profit sharing = 297k TC all cash
Depends on your trajectory path and people relationships at the firm doesn’t it?
I’ve decided to leave the Firm soon. I don’t want to become a Partner.
Honestly, I’d stay at the firm. TC of 260k doesn’t seem like a significant bump for an EM, especially when you can probably double your TC when you move up to AP in a year or two
M2 is right except the year you get elected, your comp can easily go over 550.
One of the benefits at Amazon is that people can move around. Have a colleague who went from Prod Mgr to SDM (with one or two pit stops along the way). Ultimately I think you can learn more and get more depth when you are at at company like Amazon or Apple.
In general I think hours are better and there’s less stress than consulting.
Depends on your career objectives and what exactly the role entails. Prime is a pretty big org, some of work is very interesting, other is so so
Leverage the offer for another tech company if you want to do tech; first year McK EM is ~ 300-320k TC
Seems low. What’s the breakdown here? Base/stocks/bonus?
Seems like a step down but depends on your total work ex.
Fresh MBA grads get hired at Amazon L6 but start off at McK as associates and at least 2-3 years before your current level. But may be you are being hired at a higher band within L6.
L6 is a broad level at Amazon. Some SMs from second tier consultancies also come in at this level. To clear the L7 loop, you’d need to bring a lot of functional knowledge, no one cares about Principal PM’s ability to drive BD / sales.
Should come in extremely competent so that you can ship code biweekly, assign every task for a 10+ person multidisciplinary team, and orchestrate cross functional stakeholders in executing your product vision.
Google is a destination so might need a year of prep.

I thought you should have made this such as EM at McK
