Was talking to my grandparents about this and they said that when computers were first starting to hit the scene in the 70s, there was all this excitement that the increase in productivity would reduce the work week. We’re so much more productive than we used to be due to technology, so we can get the same amount (even a bit more) done in less days!
Except we live in a capitalist society that prioritizes profit over all else. And now we have little pocket computers where we can be reached at any time so there’s no need to “turn off”. Never mind the fact that, as others have said above, for most people Friday is not all that productive. As long as you keep up the appearance of being busy, system is happy.
Considering we basically work 10+ hour days and Fridays are either half days or people try to squeeze out a full day when you’re just running errands, agree. So tired of dancing around whether I know a Friday is going to suck or not, I did my time during the week

No tears.
I strive for 4 day weekends - in my opinion, there should not be more workdays than ‚free‘ days. That doesn’t mean to chill for 4 days. Rather prioritize own projects; side hussle, health, learning, family, friends, hobbies ...
I will try to go there after my paternal leave next year. I rather work a few years more or indulge less in material stuff.
People talk about WLB. Forget about balance, my work has currently overshadowed my life 99:1
I’d settle for 3 day weekends during June-Aug every year.
Would we be ready to work 4 days and take a 20% cut? Just curious. Is it worth it?
Why would there be a 20% cut? Do days worked equal value created?
