I have been a Sr Product Manager/PM/PO for over 15 years, and I am finding it impossible over the last few years to find a role with an organization that actually uses Product management concepts regardless of how many PMs/Directors of Product they have. My current company just hired a VP of Product Management to whom I had to explain the differences between strategic and tactical work.

Apparently IAPP had a webinar this week on hiring in the privacy field. My mentee and a few law students I know all watched and it sounds like a lot of the advice was pretty bad. How do you deal with being blamed for someone else’s mistake? I feel like it’s petty to always point out when someone falsely accuses me of messing up, but I also don’t want my reputation damaged.

And to be clear, I’m not talking about client-facing situations; this mainly happens in internal meetings where the culprit doesn’t speak up to take ownership and I end up having to clean up someone else’s mess

Would it be dumb to leave before October if I’m very confident about a promotion to manager and the “substantial” raises that leadership has promised us? I can’t help but look longingly at job postings and am genuinely excited about a few that I’ve found, but it seems short sighted to apply now (and likely start in late August or early September) instead of waiting until October to get that manager title and a big raise.

End of PY struggle is working 12 hr days consistently to meet utilization 😑 eat, sleep, gym, work: rinse and repeat.........
