I got one every visit, but maybe that’s because I was going to a private hospital in Asia and they liked doing ultrasounds each visit to increase the fees. But since it was my first and we were living in different countries from our parents - it was nice to have a picture to send to our parents to share progress. And also fun (but can be costly) to see the baby growing!

Oh really? I do ultrasounds every visit

I’ve had one every visit so far. 14 weeks pregnant.

I’m 38 weeks and I’ve had three total. One at 10 weeks, the second for the anatomy scan at 20 weeks, and the third to check position at 36 weeks. Other than that we just listened to the heartbeat at all of my in person appointment which have been less frequent because of covid. Not sure what more you would get from an ultrasound at every visit besides heartbeat but I’m not a doc and I get your wanting to know more. I was sooo excited/anxious to hear the heartbeat every time we actually got to go before we could feel the baby move every day.

My ob only has us do 2 official ultrasounds per pregnancy where I go to a special US center. There are few informal US done in the office and we can request but it depends on if a machine is available, how late they’re running that day, etc. I don’t think it’s harmful but you can’t really see much when the baby gets bigger so not worth the trouble to me. I do like hearing the heartbeat at every visit though.

Mine was also only two for a normal pregnancy. Is there something you want to monitor?

Good to know. Thank you 😊😊

Normal would be two but I had two extra growth scans since I had a fibroid

Depends on your doctor!

This plagued me in early months as well. In US, they have limited USG scans to certain development milestone, and it frustrated me to no end initially till I understood that nothing much changes which can be detected by USG (at least per my OBGYN) over months. Fun fact, I go to a OBGYN practice which doesn't even have a USG, and for scans we are referred to fetal health specialists. My husband keeps telling me that he will gift my OBGYN practice a USG machine! Insist oh fetal heart monitoring though at every visit despite how busy the practioner might be.

Only had one at 12 and 20 weeks with both 🤷🏼‍♀️

My BP was high at my first appointment (150/95; emotions running high, completely normal now) so I’m going to a perinatologist 1x a month to monitor the growth/placenta. I get a US each time. I think 2-3x during the pregnancy is normal though.

Depends on your age and risk level on the pregnancy. Talk to your doctor. You could also get a fetal heart monitor so you can hear the heart beat at home. Not the same as an ultra sound, but it can reassure you and allow you to detect if the baby is in distress.

I would be cautious with this one early on if you have anxiety issues because when the baby is smaller, sometimes it can be difficult to find the heartbeat even as a medical professional. My best friend is an L&D nurse and recommended against it when I was thinking about getting one because you can really freak yourself out over nothing if the baby is in a weird position.

There’s an important meeting in two weeks and every one is planning to be in person. With three unvaccinated kids at home, I feel unsafe to be in a room full of maskless people who are making very different lifestyle choices (going out etc) than I am. My older kid wears masks all day in school and social distances - I feel guilty putting her at risk but also have major FOMO to skip the in person. With life returning back, this is going to be the first of many such situat. What would you do?
