Yes. I keep telling myself that I’ll do something interesting later but deep down I know I won’t and I’ll be bored af. Granted, it’s better to be bored and making $300k+ than to be bored and poor.

I've taken jobs that were more interesting all my life, made lots of money, even after taking huge risks, and came to consulting because now this is interesting. I can't imagine taking or keeping a job that is soul crushing or boring long term unless there is something more interesting that it leads to within a few months. Being comfortable monetarily but miserable in your job is no way to go through life.
How old are you OP? I ask because I was like that when I started. ‘Just don’t bore me..’ was my motto. And after 14 yrs in consulting...I am happy I left to industry. No crazy clients. No super high stress environment where I have an asshole of a account lead to deal with. Now I can make decisions and give opinion that’s actually valued.
Yeah that makes it harder. But I also imagine that companies will be more open to telework for the right person and if you’re senior enough. Good luck though!
Walking down a path can be enjoyable if you have a scenery
Agreed. I want to do something cooler but I’m too scared. And feel stuck financially.
It’s a tough call, no doubt about it. But more often than not I have heard people who leave for something they like are happier, if not a little less wealthy.
Holy shit. I’ve been thinking this every day

You can paint your life any way you want. I quit my first job to join a start up. Didn’t take a salary but helped set up their business. My engineering and business degrees don’t come anywhere close to the experience I gained when I had to set up the business with the founders. Ended up leaving for greener pastures (or at least that’s what I thought at that time) but I would highly recommend taking some risks.
Everyone in this bowl, as well as many other professions such as banking or PE, is playing a game. Sure, some might be winning at that game (i.e. they win the rat race), but what happens at the finish line? Then what? Some play finite games, and some play infinite games. It’s the latter group that find fulfillment and joy in life. But it’s the latter group that are more willing to take risks for that purpose.
The rat race is kinda an infinite game isn’t it
Strive to make 200k - that is the sweet spot. After that - it’s all wants and not needs. If you have a spouse that also makes 200k even better :)
Also live in low cost city; have no more than 2 kids. I’m 48 and nearing retirement.
Success is just a formula

Just makes you think “there has to be more to life, right?”
Yeah unfortunately that’s it. Next milestone is to grow your family tree and bet on which child is gonna decimate your wealth by pursuing a degree in modern hip hop
There’s gotta be more to life. Than chasing out every temporary high. To satisfy me.
