3 YOE. Does working with a recruiter work against me?

Opinions differ. I've always had more luck with a recruiter. Others will say to save the firm the expense.

If you have your own network in a particular market might not be needed. If you’re a transplant to a new area might be worth leveraging the network of a few selected recruiters.

Really depends whether the recruiter is a value add. The first recruiter I worked with was worthless. The second recruiter I worked with was great and got me into my current position. I don’t buy the “save the firm $$” view - even if you don’t go with a recruiter, it’s in your favor to ask for referrals from current associates and most amlaw firms will offer a substantial referral bonus to the referrer.

I'm a 1st year @ a civil lit defense firm. I summered here and got the "our firm culture is amazing, we want to grow and help you learn" pitch and accepted the offer of $75k, thinking that was what most other associates make (I'm 1st gen). But today I found out that associates with 4yrs experience are making $80k; for hitting the 1950 billable req., the bonus is $1k. I've also found there are big DEI problems that I can't overlook. It feels like the pitch was a big lie. Advice?

Any CAA or tax expert here?

How do y'all interact with your students when it comes to faith and your religion? Do your students know that you're a religious person?
I'm a youth leader at one of our local churches and I often talk to students who attend church about the services we have or suggest they should bring people.
Additionally, I have also started posting short videos on my instagram where I give a little encouraging message usually accompanied by a bible verse. Just a little something to show Jesus to students.

So I have this really strange satiation. I was asked to review a service agreement, and some attachments, governing website design and hosting client is buying. Literally 25 pages of the most ambiguous, inconsistent, supplier friendly thing I have ever read. Supplier insists using its documents (starting from scratch would have been Faster). The total deal is only $5,000 (which is an insanely good deal) but the time to fix these documents is going to exceed that. How would you deal with this?

So stuck. What do I do? I joined this firm a year ago (4 yrs exp total) to grow/get more court/client exposure. Then 2 more-experienced associates were hired, pandemic, & all cases are divided between the other 2. I have no defined tasks except deficiency letters or the odd pro bono case. Boss claims it's mentoring. I still need to meet bill req.

Last wk Boss said I'll do more & my work was good, but today said I can't 2nd chair bc I don't have experience. I'm doing less now than my prior firm.

How does hourly contract lawyering work? I’m on a contract through a recruiting firm before the company hires me directly. My pay is hourly but I get time and a half for over time. I’m currently a policy atty for a think tank and did prosecution before that so I’ve never “billed.” I regularly check and respond to emails on my phone in the evening after work. Do I include that on my timesheet??
