Honestly VTI (or FSKAX from Fidelity) is the simplest way to get into the stock market without having to know too much. It’s intended to track the entire stock market and can basically be a “set it and forget it” investment.

Ah yes, you’re right. I was able to pull it up. Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.

Put the majority into VTI. You can add VXUS if you want international exposure.

This is what I do with ITOT and IXUS. My entire brokerage account is those funds.

You can start the 529 now. Put it under your name, then transfer the account to your child when he/she is born.

Jack Bogle (of Vanguard) 3 fund approach. 70% US market (VOO etc) 15% international market (VEU etc) 15% bond market (I sub this for real estate VNQ) Understand ‘why’ people are recommending the index funds, then make your decision.

Thinking about getting animal crossing for my kids - what’s the minimum age y’all would recommend? I get that anyone can fish or catch bugs, but will a child get frustrated when they’re not getting blue roses because they don’t know punnet squares?

Do you invest in tax free 529 plan for kids - yes/no? What’s your monthly amount and which state’s plan did you choose? I am assuming a target of 50% should be good in principal with rest coming from the interest/gains?

Just did a free test personal training session army gym with a nice young college kid who glazed over at the mention of postpartum. Things were reasonable until he was holding my feet for sit-ups and each sit up made me pee a little. I though about making a joke and decided it would probably break this kid, so I just ignored the wet shorts and rolled with it. 😂

Intermittent fasting “experts” — how do you deal with a few nights in a row where it doesn’t seem “worth it” for social reasons to give up dinner (like your kid’s family birthday dinner, then a girls night out)? I’ll do IF for a week or 2 and my body adjusts and I’m not hungry and I start losing weight and feeling good. Then a couple nights off the wagon and it’s hard to feel like I’m starting over and feeling hungry again. Just power through it and start the IF habit again asap?

What did you all do with your newborns all day during leave? (Besides feed, change diapers, take walks, snuggle). Also, any tips or tricks for getting your newborn to sleep during day without being held? My little one is a good night sleeper but freaks out if we try to put him down during day to nap - he only wants to be held. A baby carrier works but can’t take my own nap or do some things in it

My 5 year plan includes having a baby, and i am wondering how that plays out with the consulting life and being on the road. What is everyone’s experience with this? Any advice? Can i ask for WFH?

I am starting to reach a boiling point with my mother and father in law. Obv working in consulting I have limited amount of free time and my husband in tech doesn't have much more time either. Its far enough that it requires a 2-3 night stay minimum. They expect to stay at ours every time they come (fine we dont have kids yet and we have a 4 bedroom house) the issue is how often they want to come. They want to come every other month for a long weekend. Advice?

What on EARTH, Texans?? This is INSANE. First Texas passes an anti-abortion bill literally paying people to report on anyone they think has anything to do with an abortion, and now people are required to report anyone who sees a kid who is living as a transgender person *in case* they’ve been taking hormones? This is so unbelievably foul. Those poor, poor kids.

Tell me if I’m missing something here. In consulting, you sign up to work yourself to the bone for 15ish years at well below market pay for the chance of making partner where you will still be somewhat below market for another 10 years working yourself to the bone for the chance at maybe being a senior partner for 10 years making decent money while still working insane hours all while paying for your boss’s salary and pension and their retired boss’s pension. What about this is appealing again?

When I landed at the Newark airport and proceeded to Boston in 2005 I had just landed in this country with $ 325 in my pocket and was on a student visa. I racked up $ 100,000 in student loans over the next few years. Paid it all off by 2010 and today our net worth is $ 2.2 million projected to close at $ 6 million by the time I retire. Work hard. Stay humble. You can do anything in this country with capitalism and free enterprise.
