Honestly VTI (or FSKAX from Fidelity) is the simplest way to get into the stock market without having to know too much. It’s intended to track the entire stock market and can basically be a “set it and forget it” investment.

Put the majority into VTI. You can add VXUS if you want international exposure.
This is what I do with ITOT and IXUS. My entire brokerage account is those funds.
You can start the 529 now. Put it under your name, then transfer the account to your child when he/she is born.
Jack Bogle (of Vanguard) 3 fund approach.
70% US market (VOO etc)
15% international market (VEU etc)
15% bond market (I sub this for real estate VNQ)
Understand ‘why’ people are recommending the index funds, then make your decision.
