I just got an email from a recruiter from Google!

He said that the position is in the Bay Area or New York. I haven’t replied the email. I don’t think we can move to those cities, but I don’t want to lose this opportunity. Does anyone know if Google does remote jobs within US?

Do you think you’re slow because your group has no work or because you’re not being given any work? If it’s the former, you shouldn’t worry. The firm probably isn’t going to fire a bunch of associates for cyclical issues and if they do, there’s no particular reason it would be you. In my experience, V10 firms are such money machines that they are willing to carry slow groups/associates for awhile, and some of them have been publicly adamant about not laying people off now.
If it’s the latter, you should definitely try to get ahead of being pushed out.
I think it’s the former but the office has hired a lot of people recently as it is expanding (all the wheels in motion pre-corona)...and now there is not a lot of work in our department, with too many bodies. Thanks for the insight though!
There’s a “be asked to leave” conversation early in the FOURTH year? I’ve heard of the “up or out” convo for senior associates but not for fourth years, who are typically the firm’s biggest money-makers.
