Stay put and make partner. More importantly, than just making Partner, you apparently already have a great pipeline and network to produce results.

Thanks P4. Have friends and suitors at other Firms and have a book of clients that will all travel with me. $$$ and doing great work for my clients to earn it is much more important to me than P.

I would stay. At my B4 firm first year partner salary is relatively consistent across the board and not tied to where you were before. Should be normalized once you make P.

like

Care to share which B4? I don’t believe 1st year is normalized at my Firm hence worried I will continue to be high end on performance and low end of comp even at P for initial years

What would you like to make as a first year partner to stay in your current firm?

Come to BCG, if you bring $6M incremental business you’ll make $1M+ easily

@OP what firm? Often times you will come in much higher than a D moving to Partner so make sure you understand where you would come in at before evaluating your options. I assumed a small bump but was surprised how high I came over from MD to P. I had been considering a move like you and it would have been a mistake.

B4

Are you asking whether you should go to another B4 as a lateral for a pay bump and more years of having to develop a network and prove your promotion worthiness as an MD versus making partner next year at your current? This question answers itself. Remember, wherever you would go, the other MDs have a network and brand name before you walk in the door. Passing them quickly would be quite a feat. Think of what it would take some Direct Admit from somewhere else to pass you and your other high-achieving cohort in your firm.

Couple of questions: How do you know how much everyone else is getting paid? Are you in some kind of financial distress which makes a pay increase necessary? Said differently, would you be ok with your pay if you were the best paid in your cohort? If this is an ego thing and you will make partner shortly, I don’t have a lot of good advice for you. The band for new partners at Big 4 is pretty tight across the various networks, so you will likely be not much better or worse off than your class. From there, it’s up to you. It’s been said ad nauseous that those who come up in the firm do worse on comp than new folks. Once you make partner, that etch-a-sketch clears.

Not sure how it is at your firm, but the sales you mentioned-do you convert them to your revenue? If your managed revenue is not of the same size as your sales, then path to partner might be longer than you think.

Trying to get a better understanding of the difference in hour requirements between Big 4 tax and a law firm. I’ll be joining a firm that has a 1850 billable requirement with bonus eligibility starting at 1900. In Big 4 tax I regularly worked 50 hour weeks but had low billables (~30hr per week) b/c there wasnt always work to do and quite a bit of admin. Can you hit 1900 working 50 hour weeks, or are most people putting in closer to 60 hour weeks?

Hi everyone! I recently accepted a new job with a Big 4 and am also newly engaged. I have a couple of concerns… the main one being that I may not have enough time off for 2022 to cover taking off for the wedding, honeymoon, and then a couple of other weddings where I’m supposed to be a bridesmaid. Do you think there would be any wiggle room with managers allowing time off, or is it generally pretty strict? (Continued in comments)
