3rd year running my first financing deal for a respectable investment amount as the “senior” with a 2nd year assigned to help me. Excited and nervous! Any tips? I already take a lot of pride in being friendly, approachable, and kind with people I work with, so I’m feeling okay on the management part, just nervous about carrying the workload! What if I miss something?! 😬

Have second year check what you prep (not exclusively this, but that would be a great cover for you and experience for them). Also congrats! Means your firm has confidence in your work so you’ll probably do great!

Thank you! This is a great idea.

I just did this as a fresh 2nd year (with my junior being 6 months exp). It was intense but very, very fulfilling when we got to the end (today). Partners both called me to congratulate etc. Very sink or swim. With an extra year experience (and more experienced junior support), you should be OK.

My tip is be confident, triple check everything and take the lead as much as possible (partners don’t need to check everything that goes out). Also, be friendly to the other side. Being on good terms with the other side was extremely helpful here. It felt like we were working together rather than against each other.

Good luck!

I don't know who needs to hear this, but I have a few former classmates and colleagues sweating over lateral interviews. Take a deep breath and relax.

First, doing these interviews does not define you as a person.

Second, take it one day at a time; if they are moving forward, they see something in you.

Third, remember that the people interviewing you are human beings. Connect with them, be personable.
