3rd year SM. Have been allocating slide and model building to junior teammates for so long I legit feel like if I went to industry and have to do real work I would get called out as a fake and be fired immediately. Anyone else feel this way? I’ve always had imposter syndrome but feel this is different because I was good at managing and dealing with clients - but never as creative doing the actual work. Help.

I think you r on-track to become PPD

likefunny

LOL, have you worked your way up through the ranks? Then you should be able to start doing the lifting quite quickly no?

To be honest this was my impression of MOST senior managers and above, though I don't think any of them were as self-aware as you. So you've got that on them, and somehow they still survived, so I think you'll be fine ;)

like

Eh, I think you're good. The same strategy works just as well if not better in industry anyways. The number of people getting paid to just play politics in industry is insane.

And easier to surround yourself with smart people underneath you

Just hire consultants to come and do your slide decks!

Plus industry doesn’t really value pretty slides (unless they’re paying a bomb for them). I find in industry it’s content that matters, and I’m sure you’d have that covered. What you’re currently delegating is the lower level doing and formatting and shine.

So relax, you’re doing fine

like

Go to a big company and you’ll be fine. Go to a midsize or small company and you will be given time to get up to speed, but will be expected to perform a function with competence. Your performance will be visible to all the smaller company/team you are a part of.

If you care, show up every day, are kind and friendly with your coworkers, and give your best you’ll succeed in most circumstances. Most employees aren’t better than you - they’ve just been there longer. I’ve yet to find any job that requires rocket science level knowledge. Most jobs can be mastered in just a few months - if you put in a few extra hours a week to train.

How stable is Mastercard? I have an offer from them and a food beverage company and my interest is definitely in mastercard but concerned about layoffs.
TC for both is 126k exactly so can’t base it off that either. I’m definitely way more interested in the tech space but like I said this economy is worrisome and I know food and beverage are the last to be affected.

Hearing there were some layoffs today…

Hey team! So I was laid off from my SDR position about a week ago. A couple months back, I had an offer for a BDR position that I ended up turning down but I really liked and connected with the manager. Is it worth it to reach out? I applied to other positions in the same company. What about reaching out to previous co workers at a different company? Not sure how to navigate this… please help. Also I’m sorry if this is the wrong bowl to post in.

Which sales role would would YOU rather have? Be honest..

1. 200k working 30-35 hours a week
2. 275k working 40-45 hours a week
3. 400k working 55+ hours a week

Think of these as different roles and how many hours the job takes to be successful in it to make that amount in your W2. Working more will not make you more and working less gets your fired.

As layoffs start ramping up. I’m getting pretty worried. Should I start trying to find a more recession proof industry to work in-house at (currently at an agency). Or should I double down on my efforts to look great at my agency so I’m less likely to get fired?

Does anyone have any awesome tips or videos that may help with the transition; mostly considering:
1. They're in their 50s so have to find substitutions especially for habitual snacking that is traditionally carb-centric.
2. Replacement recs for things like potatoes or pasta (even chickpea triggers response)
3. Helpful supplements? Say to expedite return to ketosis

Feeling depressed even though I have two SM offers in hand and looking for advice. My first choice is Deloitte due to the type of work, slightly better comp and I’d like a change in culture, but I’m in my early 40s and the path to principal seems like a no-go due to age. Sounds like the path to MD isn’t clear and a huge step below principal. Accenture has a very clear path to MD. Even though I’m currently at accenture my network will not come into play. So let’s not consider that a factor.

The work itself is very similar to what we do in consulting but you don't have to worry about firm activities, utilization, etc.
