4 Day Work Week, please

The only passion for work I have is the passion of the paycheck.

“Why do you want to work here?”
“Because money can be exchanged for goods and services, and I prefer having money to not having money.”

What COVID had taught me is that there are people in this world who’s only life is at work. These are the clients that insist on 7 AM & 8 PM meetings during lockdown, and the PPMDs who send you emails on Sunday mornings. These are the same people that have spent decades bragging about working the hardest and longest hours. They will fight this tooth and nail because they have nothing to fill their spare time with.

You are spot on!

I've basically moved to a 4 day work week for the remainder of 2020. I have unchecked Friday as a work day in Outlook and put an OOO entry on my calendar on top of it. If things work out I take PTO, if they don't I will work it but 5 days of extremely long days is too much. For me I just don't care that much about this work anymore since the pandemic started. 🥱

I strive to be like you

Socialism is working because the government forces you to do so. Capitalism is working because your bills force you to do so.

People from capitalist nations don’t understand that with capitalist institutions comes cultural capitalism (greed, narcissism... think everything which is wrong with the world). In a long standing socialist nation, socialist institutions would bring cultural socialism. This would create the values within us to put the community first. To work hard for the welfare of each other. Like a family but at a much greater scale. Westerners can’t imagine it because it’s not their world.

Work is just work. Pays the bills.

Sure. Feel free to work 4 days. But then don’t complain if I work more, make more, and advance faster than you. Both are valid choices with clear consequences.

So long as you don't twiddle your thumbs for 8 more hours (which happens a lot especially after 40)... I agree

People in Asia work 5.5 days (halfday Saturday which means 9-3)

Yes and their productivity is less.
