40 y/o female here. Have lived in nyc for 15 years. Mother is old and needs care now - looking for a 2 bedroom apt (midtown and below ideally). Been checking on street easy but nothing super appealing. Budget is probably $5k/month. Any suggestions on other sites to look or approaches that might work? Need to move with 20-30 days as my current studio apt lease & her 2 bedroom lease in nj is ending April 30. Thanks in advance

Roosevelt Island is perfect. You should be able to find a nice 2 bedroom for 5k. Very safe and good for older people. Very short commute if you’re working around midtown.

Ps also there is a senior center here with exercises classes, social stuff and other supports that could be helpful.

I would check out some doorman co-op type buildings in midtown east if you can as I’ve found the rents to be somewhat reasonable & you are often renting directly from the unit owner but reaping the benefits of a well maintained, doorman building.

This is smart - thanks!

Craigslist works but you just have to be discerning. Also I’d highly recommend checking out parts of Brooklyn.

The listings project is great for no-listings-agent apartments that sometimes don’t make it to Zillow.

Besides residence, where are her family/friends located? Which neighborhoods have the best senior community centers she can drop into?

Total respect for your rising up to meet your mom’s needs. Have you considered StuyTown on the east side - between 14-23rd Sts.? Very neighborhood-like with landscaping on the multi-acre property.

like

Would you consider Astoria, Woodside or Sunnyside?

Try StuyTown (east side 14-23 street) - decent size apartment under $5K. Good outdoor space too

I received a job offer for a PM position with a base of $125K and a 10% bonus, fully remote and ok benefits. The parental leave is pretty bad, just FMLA and STD/LTD so the most I’d get is 60% of my salary for 12 weeks. I’ve cancelled most of my interviews except for one where the pay is $135K, 20% bonus, hybrid schedule, good benefits and 16 weeks fully paid parental leave. I’d like to start my family in a year or two - is it better to take the remote gig or the hybrid role with full paid leave?

There are definitely some red flags with the guy with his income and that he doesn’t speak English, curious what others would do - what would your parents say? Mine would flip!

Folks,
Have been married for 15 years and have a kid of 11 years. My spouse is falsely accusing me of domestic abuse and trying to get separated. We have had incompatibility even before marriage on various issues but it was an arranged marriage, we tried to work it out and stay together. Her side is asking her to move on. She has taken my kids passport and kept it with her. What are the options I have to defend myself?

I'm in North Carolina... and I resigned after eighteen years, with MONTHS of leave I'd accrued and never used. The sheer amount of work put on us was the proverbial straw (documenting EVERY student and parent contact, attendance, then updating attendance, grace-filled grades with no accountability from students, on TOP of the extra state requirements requiring IEP changes from switching back to all virtual from hybrid, and vice-versa.) I am done. I'm just done. And bummed about all that leave...

Hi, I am a single-parent with a 9 year old daughter. Is anyone else dealing with same gender sleepovers with sexual exploration occurring? Exploring as in my daughter says outright “I am going to kiss you,” to her bestie before bed. Then after 15 minutes of giggling in bed I go to tell them to be quiet and see my daughter’s bestie is showing her buttcheeks to my daughter. To top it off they start trying to tell me they are laughing because they are reading “belly laugh books for kids”. Help.

Has anyone figured out how to not feel absolutely horrendous when you wake up? I dread mornings because waking it so hard for me.

I prioritize getting 7-8 hours of sleep (this is the best I can do at the moment with work and a small baby) and I’ve stopped drinking because even 1 beer seems to make the morning 10x worse. Anything else I can try?

Any good detox diets that good to try out and not horrroble for your body? I want to curb some sugar cravings and bad eating habits over the past year. Has anyone done one they liked? I was thinking of starting a 3 day detox then go into 7days of a white meat/fruit cleanse for a week. Then just stop eating like a complete child on holiday after those are done 😅 any advice on what helped you get past the cravings and level set would be helpful! I heard good things about keto but like options.

Are there any mothers here who voluntarily gave primary custody to the kids father? I love my children fiercely but tbh I don’t think I’m cut out to be a single parent. Family and friends tell me I’m a great mom but at the end of the day having them on my own is exhausting and I end up just either letting them do whatever they want Bc I don’t feel strong enough to set a limit about it, or yelling at them. They’re 4 and 7 for reference. Please constructive responses only. Thank you!

I feel like people don’t take me seriously at my job given that I have a junior title. Half my job consists of chasing after people and no one bothers to answer my emails or follow up. Usually the requests I have come from my boss or for big projects we’d be working on. Thankfully, my boss helps me out & emails the people I need when I tell her no one responds but they’ll answer her in 2 mins or less when she sends it. Though I’m happy she’s helping, it’s such a pain in the ass to wait around.

I just received an offer on a job I would really like to accept. The salary offer is about 25% higher than my current salary, which I am happy about, but is also the low $ on the range I had expressed to the recruiter and the exact $ that I put on the online application (I had to put a $ figure). Am I being greedy trying to negotiate for a bit higher? Do they expect me to counter? I have been burned by NOT negotiating in the past but who can be mad at a 25% increase??
