401K question - if I max my contribution this year and then join another firm - can I still contribute and max that one out as well - within the same fiscal year? Or is it just allowed to max out overall total within a year irrespective of company

No. There is a tax limit not a company limit. If you do this you may get in trouble with the IRS.

like

It's a per person per tax year limit set by the government regardless of how many employers you have

Well m not an analyst but changing jobs for first time.

No, it’s based on the individual (you), not the firm.

Does employer contribution count towards the IRS cap?

Nope

Only max to what the company matches, then open an investment account. That way your money is liquid
