All these comments LMAO as if Goldman Sachs is some pillar of ethics and sustainability 😂😂😂 didn’t they help cause the financial crisis? Let’s not even pretend a PR agency with 5000 employees has the same level of impact as a multinational bank with 44,000. GS regularly advises and helps clients invest in oil companies. IMO it depends on the role at Edelman. I personally don’t touch any client work that I’d consider unethical, and love my job. But Goldman probably pays more so it’s up to your priorities.
I've worked both agency and in-house. Edelman is an awesome place. I'm still learning and growing after years of experience, and I have the opportunity to touch a lot of different clients and work with a lot of smart people. If you work in Financial Comms at Edelman you could easily make just as much as working on the comms team at Goldman. They are totally different opportunities, at an agency you're the revenue generator and in-house you're a cost center. Good talent will be successful whever you go, so do what's right for your career, but I wouldnt listen to the Edelman haters. That's not my experience at all.
Leaving Edelman on good terms right now. Second everything this person said
Anything but Edelman. Greenwashing / oil company representation, repping Saudi Arabia and countless less-than-ethical groups, etc. We won't hire anyone who has spent more than a year at that firm because they often know very little about real world business speed or media relations.
The CEO at Edelman is also a liar. Promising no layoffs in 2020. Then laying off. I'll never respect him or that company for that ever again. Don't say they couldn't help
It. Because while they may have had to cut overhead. Their forcasting was awful and they shouldn't have let Richard say anything
Goldman
Those are two very different jobs, so it depends on what you value in your work! I stay on the agency side because I like the pace and variety in the work. Personally, if I were to work in-house, it would have to be a brand that I’m personally VERY passionate about and believe in.
Do you mind sharing the salary / bonus anticipated for the roles? Always curious to see what people are landing these days!
Edelman is not a miserable place to work. Love my place here. 4 years and been promoted several times. What part of Edelman? Team and location can certainly make a difference. Consider joining us!!
I also work at Edelman. Been here numerous years in several roles and geos. Very happy.
Leadership, culture and values really matter. Edelman is a pretty toxic place…
Goldman. Edelman is a miserable place to work.
At Edelman and miserable. Listen to Edelman 1.
Goldman!
Goldman will have bonuses that are far larger than what Edelman can do.
Now someone is talking sense
I went in-house at 6 years (plus agency internships so really like 8 years if you could college) and it was perfect timing for me. I felt like I had plateaued in my agency role and fully knew what I was doing and was so curious what it was like on the other side.
If you feel the same I’d jump in house. If you still feel like you have plenty to learn at an agency and still feel uncomfortable/stretched, I would do agency. You really don’t learn much about PR in-house — you just apply your existing knowledge and learn how to navigate a big organization.
Legal (I did all professional services and financial services work at agency)
Goldman sachs
Goldman for sure
As someone else mentioned, these are two very different roles. Think about where you see yourself in 5-10 years. Do you want an in house role? Or do you want to explore agency leadership positions? If you want to climb the ladder in house you’ll likely have to move around to different companies because promotions most often come when someone leaves.
Goldman - no question here
Edelman is a great spot. Really about career trajectory and the quality of manager at the in house opp. You likely are wedded to that person much more than you would be at Edelman where you can maneuver between leaders if not a fit esp based on your level described
Goldman. In addition to the salary and benefits, it will give you much better leverage if you wanted to move to another in-house role with a different company.
Goldman Sachs all day. Edelman isn't doing well right now. https://www.chicagotribune.com/coronavirus/ct-coronavirus-chicago-pr-edelman-layoffs-20200603-4ib4ayngszdlllycjefdqvk2hy-story.html
You’re a great fit.
What team at Goldman? Will definitely determine it
Goldman sounds like the winner. Am assuming it’s more money and it’s definitely more prestige plus you’re in-house zero clients! Goldman is supposed to be tough but it’s difficult anywhere and they at least compensate you for it!
