Not loving associate life at my firm. Recruiters say that the clock is ticking on exiting, but we have variable comp and I've worked a ton this year- I'd like to stick it out until bonus season
Honestly any firm that is trying to snatch you before bonus season should be offering you additional compensation for the foregone opportunity cost.
The whole "clock is ticking" thing is just a recruitment ploy. Try to secure your bonus but be ready to move when you get the right opportunity.
Forget recruiters. Let me know if you want to come to Gibson Dunn. I will give you $5k from my recruiting bonus and set you up with interviews. Also don’t leave until you get you bonus at your current firm.
Thanks! I might take you up on that :)
What are your goals? Do you have a 1/3/5/10 year plan? Is this in line with that or are you letting the glittery recruiter-speak distract you and make you unhappy?
It's tough to answer because there are days I enjoy and can imagine staying partner track but then again I guess I question where do I actually want to be in 10 years. The recruiter speak is having an effect which to your point I shouldn't let distract me.
See if a new opportunity will offer a signing bonus to account for the bonus you’ll be leaving at your current firm. Many will.
Interviewing now is fine, and maybe a good idea. I think firms will either buy out your bonus or have no problem offering you the job now, but waiting for you to start until the new year.
Exactly. I actually have had a firm buy out my bonus.
