Try for a modest signing bonus. Negotiating salary is almost always a nonstarter.
I negotiated a signing bonus from a non-lockstep, bottom V100 firm. I was coming from a V20 (relocating). Like someone else said, salary is usually a non-starter because it creates dissection the the ranks, but a signing bonus was no biggie.
