I'm European and I can attest that this is a crazy rumor

I am US. Because my body shape is dumpy and irregular I use custom suits for work. I prefer braces because belts tend to be too tight or too loose, either bunching above the waist line or drooping.

Maybe European movie stars

I’m in Canada and I don’t wear belts because it stupid and superfluous if your pants fit. There, I said it.

If it’s a tailor fitted suit then yes, it wouldn’t require a belt. However, most suits are off the rack so this isn’t common.

It depends. If the clip on the trousers/pants is a few inches long and goes over to the side then you don't need a belt. If the clip is straight in the middle then you do.

None of my double-breasted suits have belt loops. They are all tailored or made to measure. I feel like there’s enough going on already, no need to add a belt to pants that were specifically made to fit you. Not European, FYI. But I’m a regular breaker of most fashion rules, because I think most of them are dumb and I’m not an old white man.

I once forgot my belt on a business trip and just said it was European. Everyone was impressed.
