My firm has a "nap room" -- literally why? Who would be caught dead in there? I don't understand these "perks" that are so far outside the culture to ever see use

I take a nap on my floor under my desk. I have a pillow for it. Usually people think I’m at court or at lunch.

Yeah, as a young associate I was kinda embarrassed to bring in my seat cushion at first, lol.

I’ve got a sofa in my office, and I have been pretty open about my power naps. If you’re expecting people to spend 12-13 hours in the office each day (in addition to the hours spent working at home at night) I don’t think it’s crazy to take a 15-20 minute nap and it shouldn’t be seen as laziness.

I wouldn’t say I’m open about it but I take power naps too. Usually during my lunch hour. I don’t see the issue to be honest. It makes me more productive. If I’m making my hours I can’t see why they should care.

Anyone who has a problem with power naps has never learned how to effectively take one. I can fight through 2 hours of drowsiness and produce less/worse work product, or I can snooze for 15 minutes and be right back at it refreshed and ready to bill like a champ. You can work harder or you can work smarter.

When I was working in London, England the big firms had nap rooms for times when deals would go wellll into the night or during trials.

Do you mean a nap room or a rest pod? The difference is that a rest pod is only used if you're working late or sick, and a nap room is just for productive naps. English firms don't have nap rooms and frown on the rest pods being used as such.

Lol. Same. I have taken speed naps in office phone booths though, with my headphones in and my computer open in front of me.

We don’t have one. Most people just sleep in the toilet cubicles.

We have one. I think it’s mainly used by people working overnight on something who live in the suburbs. I’ve used it when I’ve had a headache, to recover for an hour instead of going home. It’s convenient.

I keep a moon mat in my office and will take power naps on that. I don’t have a glass office though
