I have PTSD from the last former county atty my old firm hired. It was the first week & i went down to help show him the billing system only to find him leaned back in his chair, feet on his desk and having a cell phone conversation. He lasted 6 LONG and awful weeks
He attracts work, much like former US Attorneys, relatively few of whom are exceptional practitioners, attract work to their law firms. The draw is that clients think someone like that has inside knowledge or special skills, even if it’s not so.
As someone who has expert level excel skills from being an IB for 5 years - you aren’t hiring TG for the ability to build modes that anyone could outsource to a 2nd or 3rd year banker or even to China or India. You are hiring him for big picture strategic thinking and his network and his relationships.
