5th year corporate associate. I always feel like I’m faking it and getting by and am not actually competent and that I don’t know what I’m doing. Is that normal? I’m always anxious because of this

5th year here as well and I feel the same way all the time. I do a lot of advice and counseling and constantly feel like I’m faking it. But every time I have one of those moments where I know exactly what I’m talking about I just hold onto it and remind myself that I’ve worked my tush off to get here and I’ve got this! You do too! Also, CBD Oil has worked wonders for my high anxiety and helps calms my nerves.

5th year corporate associate here too - 100% same here. I constantly feel that peers at other firms that I work across from are more ‘advanced’ than me even though we have similar roles on deals.

I’m not sure I would articulate it the same way you did, but doubt is by far my greatest enemy. And I think more people in our profession feel that way than is realized. Whether purposeful or incidental, or a product of a lawyer’s innate personality, the Big Law environment fosters such thoughts, which keeps us working hard. 6th year lit assoc.

6th year corp associate, and yes, the feeling is universal. I've had this conversation with others and everyone feels it.

Imposter syndrome is very real. It helps to remind yourself that your supervisors will tell you (hopefully) if you are screwing up, out of self preservation if nothing else. Just remember to be kind to yourself.

First year associate (3 months) post-clerkship, feeling VERY dumb and useless and like I have no clue what I’m doing 😭 thank you so much for posting this, I was wondering if I was the only one!!!! I take 5 mg lexapro daily for anxiety, it helps so much. My symptoms were truly debilitating and interfering with my work

I wonder if all the old conservatives realize how hated and reviled they are by the younger generations. They've dug the future of their party into such an inescapably deep hole they can't come back from.

I really feel like I’ve been dealt a really bad hand in my life. It feels like no one gives me a chance. Whether it’s a job I know I’m qualified for, or someone I’m interested in. Even things that appear to be good at first end up sucking. I know I should be grateful for what I have and that so many others are less fortunate. But I still can’t help but think that for a person in my position, given the opportunities that I was given, I am just a complete failure and nowhere near what I could be.
