Your also not getting past resume screeners because you have 0.5 yoe…at least 1 if not 2 yoe is needed to get a non new grad job.

The best way at early career is to move into a product-adjacent role (product analyst, product ops, biz ops) then move to product internally. Other move is to go for some small startup. At 0.5 yoe that’s still hard though.

like

Yeah it has nothing to do with specific product experience and the fact you are already looking to jump ship 6 months into your first job.

Stick it out for another 6 months then start looking. In meantime, try to get staffed on projects where you will get some product adjacent experience.

Most likely need to wait until you have a year of experience and try to see if you can be staffed on roles where they’re building a product if you’re not already. That way, you can work on sliding into a product based role over time and have it on your resume

Have a follow up. I have 3.5 years of experience in PwC and Mindtree where I have worked as software engineer and product owner adjacent roles. However I am still not able to break into PM roles. Inam not sure how to tie up and present my story as I feel that my experience only makes me a better PM candidate

@OP, to speak frankly, I would not hire your profile type on my product team, even if you had another 6 months of experience.

You're very green/junior, and MC toolkit is very different from a product toolkit. Being at EY-P means you're smart, but that doesn't mean you are ready for the role.

I'd recommend you seek projects at EY that have real product work and get exposure that way to EY's product teams and start studying. Or do side projects that give you the ability to understand the product life cycle.

Can provide more specific guidance if you like, but I think it's a huge fallacy here that consultants can easily transition into product / make great product managers.

@OP, I still think being in EYP is valuable because you're getting exposure to C-Suite agenda and priorities, and you can see business problems at a very high altitude. Stick it out for a bit longer.

I am sure there are a few projects where EYP gets embedded downstream in some form--this is true for any major transformation program.

In the meantime...

EY also has a decent tech/digital org as well--maybe there's a rotational program? Or you can network and get to know people closer to the product visioning and building for clients?

Another alternative is EY also has an internal product org building IP for consulting teams... They could shed some light too.

Does EYP offer secondments to do outside work for a period of time? MBB did when I was there.

Hi OP, your CV slight need some work for sure. You can have it reviewed by professional writers.
Try to get into a role that will lead you to a PM role, we tend to fixate ourself on the final goal but just try to take the first step toward your goal. Also maybe the type of company you are targeting do not hire junior with no experience… some startups do etc.

Scared of getting my offer pulled back. I’m going through negotiations right now, and the recruiter said the hiring team will get back to her by the eod today when we chatted yesterday. It’s almost eod and we’re all going into holiday mode now. Should I follow up with her to give a gentle nudge or would it end up annoying them since I came to her/the team with an aggressive counter/negotiation? (I’m a woman if that’s helpful - generally never negotiate and this is my first time doing it….)
