7th year of H1b and have I140 PD in June 2020 (Chinese)... getting tired of my current job and want to do a MBA then switch career. Is it still possible? Would I be able to extend my H1b after I graduate say two years later for a new employer, even if the job has completely changed - say from business consultant to a tech manager? Can I still retain my PD if filing for a new Perm?
FWIW Was in a similar situation few years ago. I140 establishes immigrant intent and F1 is a non immigrant visa, so legally a USCIS officer has grounds to reject your application for F1, and worst case cancel H1. I paid a lot of lawyers to tell me just that. But I really wanted it to so went ahead and applied for F1 myself, prepared letters and documents to establish my intent to return to my home country, and show how important an MBA would be for me. I got the F1 and ended up doing a full time MBA. Best decision I ever made! Ended up joining a B4 and used my older PD to get a GC sooner.
When you switched to F1, was your GC considered to be abandoned? I’m in a very similar situation. Can I DM with questions?
You can’t go on a student visa once you’ve shown intent to immigrate by filing for the green card

Not 100% true. It’s still possible to get an F-1 after I-140 approval. Different story if you have filed I-485.

I did a weekend MBA while on H1B. My PD date is intact but my job description changed so McK had to file a new PERM.
Feel free to DM. There is no 'abandonment' per se. Your employer could file to withdraw the 140, generally if you part on good terms they don't. You van always recapture the old PD dates per the rules today.
Unrelated but what is Jack Black - the men's cosmetic product company? If yes, do you have any special employee coupons we can use? 😂
