A bit off topic but my dad is struggling with depression and this is taking a toll on my own mental health + being able to concentrate on work - any tips?

You are on the right path - therapy and possibly medication. Let him know you care and have noticed the issue - it may well be chemical. I have a child that has clinical depression, and the change in my child once they got the meds right was amazing.

like

Many people suffer from depression and are fully functional and it's manageable.
Get dad some help - psychologist/psychiatrist in case he needs meds. Have dad sign up for counseling - 1:1 and group.
Get yourself some help - counseling/support group
Find others around you who are supportive
See if other family members can get involved so it's not just you
Take PTO or consider LoA
Talk to your HR and see if they have any adjusted work schedule. I don't know who you work for but all big firms or major employers will have some way to help you.
If you work for where I work I know we have great help and I can guide you.

Take care if yourself or you won't be able to take care of your dad.
You are obviously a great kid and your dad is lucky to have you.

I am not a professional in this field but if you need to talk DM me anytime.

uplifting

He go to therapy yet?

Yea so he took meds all last year and then felt better and stopped. Now he’s struggling again so we scheduled an app with the doctor

Hey guys… I’m a case worker in child safety and I’m someone who loves being outdoors/dies at a desk all day. I’m hoping to organise that at least once a week I can go to a cafe and catch up on all my case notes that need to go into the system.
So far the only reason I’ve been told no is that “if you do then everyone will want to and then no one will be in the office” … how can I convince them that I work better out of the office and get this freedom & mental break for myself?

Do you feel like women are underrepresented in the insurance industry? I work with a ton of great women and didn't really think much about it until I spoke to a friend who also works in office, she says there are like 5-10 female employees out of over 100 CSM's. If you think there are less women in insurance than men, why do you think that is?

Serious question - is there a reverse FIRE strategy? I like the idea of saving and retiring early, but the one hiccup I see (and sorry if this is grim) is if you die earlier than expected. I’d be worried that I would minimize lifestyle and fun for retirement at 50 but I’d die at 49. How about a way to work 9 months out of the year and retire/travel/relax for 3 months? This way you guaranteed your dreams/etc. are fulfilled

I’ve been doing a lot better lately but I’m feeling these rejections are starting to get to me. Any PMs out there willing to share any advice or connect with me 1x1?

Then I was told to work directly with a client, it's been 2 months already we work late hours and also on weekend (asked by the client). It feels like my personal life is gone. We are planning on writing up a co-ownership agreement with a 60%/40% split and yes he will be paying 40% of the mortgage, down payment, and property taxes etc. He wants to be on the title as a tenant in common to reflect that %. Is that fair? I just want to make sure I’m protected but I also understand that if he’s paying all this money, he wants some security as well

Celsius vs BlockFi now that BlockFi has all the cease and desist orders? Seems like celsius pays better AND now may be a safer bet? I like that BlockFi allows interest flex so i could get everything in eth or something and i have their CC, but otherwise they kinda suck. Bad rates and limited / expensive withdrawals.

I’m also concerned about more states piling onto BlockFi and turning them into a bitconnect or cred or something. Unlikely i know but curious about folks thoughts.

Fellow millennial lawyers: tell me, in general terms, 1 or 2 clients you acquired and how you acquired them. I feel like the suggested strategies for developing business are always the same: network, build your brand (hate this phrase), market yourself on LinkedIn, etc. Does any of this work? Seems to me to that most business development comes from long-standing contacts (e.g. your childhood best friend is now CEO and needs legal services), so I’m curious how other attorneys developed business.

Hi all, I’ve been pondering this question in my mind for awhile and haven’t found any solid answers. How much is the average wage for a Prep Cook & Dishwasher? If it matters, I’m in Virginia. I’m in the process of learning to be a Line Cook so that should give me more courage to ask for a raise. I’m currently at $14/h, and with reduced hours, inflation isn’t helping me. Any insights will be greatly appreciated, thanks!
