A bit short on cash, have 0% APR credit card, is it ok to put say 10000 balance on it and pay only minimum payment every month till the 0% APR expires?

Sure, but expect to be walloped by the interest when that kicks in unless you've paid down a substantial amount of the principal. Beyond all that, will you be in a better cash flow position when the 0% expires? Or will you be trapped in a cycle of not enough cash flow plus interest, to boot?

like

It is ok to pay the minimum, but your balance will be reported to credit bureau and depending on overall credit utilization your score will go down.

like

I would say yes. My husband had to do this when we first started our business and were short on cash. Ended up paying the balance before the interest kicked in.

like

Yes, but don’t let there be a balance when the 0% rate expires. Even at 0% this will impact your credit score because of high utilization (unless you have massive limits elsewhere which seems unlikely given the situation), but shouldn’t be a huge deal in the long run.

like

Then you’re fine, go for it. Just pay it off before the rate goes up because you typically will owe interest that generally accrues from the time you make the charge.

Yes. I did that for my wife’s education loan

Yeah but make sure to pay off the balance before interest is said to kick in if not paid

Watch out. I did this intending to pay it off and... didn't. Eyes bigger than cash flow.

Of course. Time value of money, a dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow. Risk free arbitrage opportunity by borrowing and investing at the risk free rate. Just make sure you pay it all before the vig kicks in. It will impact your credit score but that won’t matter unless you’re trying to get a mortgage or something.

Yes there are no hidden problems with that. The only caveat is the hit on util which won’t be a problem for you (150k overall limit). Just plan to pay it all off before the 0% period runs out, as it will probably go up to 15-25%.

You will also get a credit score hit for the util on that one card. For utilization, FICO scoring is calculated based on both single card utilization and overall utilization. With $150k in total available credit, increasing your util by $10k won't make much of an impact on the overall util calculation, but will ding you on your individual card util since that will take it above 10% util. Fyi, <10% util on an individual card is the magic number for FICO scoring, though there are also varying levels of scoring impact at >25%, >50%, >90%, and >100% util.

Doing the same with about 15k and 3 cards. Credit score has taken a hit though

What cards have 0% APR in the US?

Got promoted to senior but did not get a raise to go with it. Firm keeping salaries flat this year due to COVID-19, but I was shocked when I found out promoted staff wouldn’t be getting a raise either. To me, this whole thing rings hollow because the firm has told us multiple times that they were projecting flat growth for the year when compared to last year (which was one of the best in firm history). So it pisses me off that they shot their mouth off about how great year last year was...cont

I feel like I’m on the outside looking in and I don’t like what I see. I haven’t returned to teaching this year because I was overwhelmed by what was being asked of us and chose to use all of my sick time instead. From this perspective, I see teachers being used and abused. I see teachers asking questions about situations that should never be tolerated. We are the professionals. Why are we allowing this? It’s the Stockholm Syndrome for education. We provide a valuable service. Remember that.
