A colleague of mine just informed me that she earns more than me. Not a lot. $1000. We both manage optometry practices for a large chain. I've been with company seven years and a manager for four. She joined the company a year ago with no optical experience. Her store is busier than mine, but I have the optical skills and she's still learning. I feel like we should be at least on the same level. Thoughts?

I get your point. Maybe she has more management experience so it offsets the optical experience. Salaries change with time so thats why she makes that amount. And maybe she lied, maybe not.

New hires routinely come on board for more more than a little bit more money than existing employees make, even to the point where internally promoted managers can have direct reports that make a lot more than they do. Companies are a lot more competitive when seeking new talent than when considering retention. $1k is nothing.

Could be due to salary negotiation?

I am getting a good project in current company where there will be lot of learning
Initially it will be manual and then it will have automation testing. At the same time I have an offer in another company with good package but there won't be much learning compared to the current company project I am yet to get locked. Is learning important and priority for 4.5 years of experience? Or better to go with the high package offer? (Other company offer is from TCS). Your valuable comments would help.

Very grateful to have a job but I'm just not happy, fulfilled, or feeling it. My managers have been awful and I haven't had an opportunity to grow or learn in professional services.

I've changed jobs every 2-3 years hoping to find more than just a paycheck without working 80 hour weeks. I'd love to find somewhere I really belong with great opportunities to grow and contribute. How do you go about finding more than a paycheck without giving your whole life to your job?

I'm currently an early PM at a small fintech startup and thinking of changing companies, but could use some advice.

1. If I want to be a tech PM in the future, would it be a bad idea to go into a different industry, like an ad or creative agency, for some time? Would it be harder to transition back to tech afterwards?

2. If you were at an early stage startup that doesn't have benefits set up yet, what % increase on top of the base salary would you want for total compensation?

Have an interesting be possible offer. The salary "might" be on the low end of my desire number, the health benefits won't start right away; takes 60 days then they begin on the first of the month following the 60 days. 401k contributions don't start until 6 months. PTO is only 10 days plus a number of company holidays.

Other than more base salary, are the things negotiable, like more PTO? What about also basking for compensation to cover Cobra payments during the transition phase?
