A coworker is having a baby soon and we want to get him something before he goes on paternity leave. Any thoughts or recommendations? What have you see for good gifts in the past?

Amazon vouchers. Lots of amazon vouchers.

like

Gift certificate to someplace that has great food for delivery.

Meal or grocery delivery is a safe bet. My team found our registry on amazon & a bunch of people pitched in a bit for one of the big items. A simple surprise shower is also thoughtful.

like

Diapers, lots of them.

like

You could try a meal subscription service for a few months?

But his world will be buying diapers and random thing after random thing on Amazon. So an amazon gift card is super practical

like

Im going to take this a different direction.

The moment you have a kid, you no longer really have the discretionary income you used to, and you are forced to be sensible. Misguided impulse buys of good whiskey and such get curtailed so that you can buy palettes of diapers and expensive electronics to keep your baby soundly sleeping yet not so soundly they die of SIDS.

So instead of responsible things like gift cards for baby swag and diapers, get him something irresponsible. Because it will be a while before he can scratch that itch again

like

I don’t disagree with this at all! A great bottle of whiskey and an Amazon gift card is a good combo

Is this a gift for him or for the baby?

I had a group of friends send a ton of diapers and can not recommend this enough. Something they obviously need and sets them up for a while. It’s easy enough to just order online but it’s a great and simple gift. It’s tempting to buy something big or “cool” as far as gadgets or toys. But end of the day, they may want to do research and be selective on buying those items.

Uber Eats gift card and few nice board books for the baby!

How big is the gift. If enough people then a snoo... Or snoo subscription.

FYI that thing has saved my sanity.

Classic baby books

Anyone have three kids and working in big law? I just found out I’m pregnant with no. 3 and it’s been a lot trying to juggle morning sickness, but based on my experience, I know this is only the tip of the iceberg of what’s to come. My husband and I are elated, but the anxiety of being a mom of 3 kids and working in big law is preventing me from truly enjoying this news. It would be good to know what it’s really like having 3 kids so that I can evaluate how long I really have left in big law.

I’m in a rather peculiar situation. I have been in the HR field going on 4 years, I have over 11 years of management experience, I got my PHR last year and I recently graduated with my MBA with a concentration in HR this month. I am ready for a more challenging role. However, there doesn’t seem to be much available at my current company. However, I am going on 5 months pregnant with the expectation of being out in October. I feel like once I mentioned my pregnancy I was in a holding pattern.

Will it be too high salary to ask for a Manager(M2)-Data Analytics position in Deloitte Consulting UK?
If no, then will it be good enough for 3 people to lead a decent life in London (Like Hounslow or Milton Keyes) including a 2 year old kid. Traveling to London on daily basis.
If yes, then kindly suggest a reasonable salary range for this role.

After 3 years of dealing with the worst firm I've ever had the displeasure of working for, I finally landed my dream gig at a small specialty firm. The people at the new firm are all SMEs featured in and contributors to the most notable business publications in the world, less than 100 employees, better benefits, unlimimted PTO, doubled my pay and landed a senior role.

Keep looking for what you want and deserve. I'm happy to be forging a better path away from what I've had to endure.

I wanted to spread a little positivity this Friday afternoon. I just started a new job after casually interviewing for several months at the start of the year to do a little research on the marketing job market, and then seriously interviewing/searching since May. After coming close with several other jobs but something always going wrong (low ball pay, role put on hold, etc.) I finally got THE job. I’m excited about it, I’m paid well, and fully remote. So don’t settle, and don’t give up! ✨
