The great thing about a hip replacement is they want you up and walking within a few hours of surgery. She’ll need a few days to more fully recover and weeks to be 100% again, but she will be able to walk around day of. Maybe bring her something to do while she’s in the hospital / rehab, and then make her yummy food once she’s out? So sweet of you!
Pre-pack food, Try to set up on 1st floor if she has stairs. Talk to her or have her talk to doctor about expectations after surgery. Is the plan for rehab or home? If the plan is rehab, does she have medicare or commercial insurance? If medicare, she needs a 3 night inpatient stay in the hospital for medicare to cover rehab etc. If plan is for home, case manager, social worker at hospital or surgeons's office needs to set up homecare for physical therapy. If she think she needs more than homecare, she should consider looking for a private duty aide to stay with her at home.
After surgery they may send her to a rehab place instead of home. Def go visit her if you can. I had a friend in rehab for double knee replacement and it gets really boring. We brought magazines and her favorite soda.
I think even just checking in briefly but regularly via text would keep spirits up.
I’d assume they’d put her in a rehab facility for awhile since she lives alone, unless she has a family member/friend willing to stay with her. I honestly think just being there and fully present is great! Visit her and bring her favorite comfort food and maybe flowers. Maybe an Uber Eats gift card?
Offer to do housework or treat her to cleaners
