A friend just kicked out of dental school because she refuses to get the COVID-19 vaccine. She claims her family has suffered “adverse affects” from the vaccine and is afraid to get it.
What have you done to convince someone you love to get the vaccine? I hate watching her throw away her career because of something as trivial as getting a vaccine.

My aunt got the vaccine and a with in hours of the 2nd does she started feeling ill. A few days later should went to the ER because she was having trouble breathing. Then a week later her kidneys failed. She has been doing horribly ever since, going in and out of the hospital. This was 4 month ago and she went in the hospital aging this week, no eta when she might get out. She was perfectly healthy, no piror conditions. Not overweight.

Another family friend had a heart attack within a week getting the jab, she had several more since then. No family history of heart attacks or heart conditions. She is 21, in the airforce, very healthy.

Neither of those were reported in VAERS because doctors know the vaccine is safe and effective, so OBVIOUSLY it wasn't the vaccine. How can you show it is safe and effective if people are reporting adverse reactions for something that is safe and effective?

Those are the more serious adverse reactions I know of.

I am sorry, but I'm never going to take it, and I don't fault her one bit for not wanting to take it especially if she is young and healthy.

And great point by IBM- VAERS isn’t some secret doctor website. Anyone who has had the vaccine can input something.

When my mom was hesitant I asked her to tell me what she needed to not feel afraid. She told me she didn’t want to take a vaccine that our government wouldn’t even approve (this was before FDA approval). So I simply waited til it was approved and then shared with her the good news. Maybe because it came from me, it made her feel good. I also offered to go with her if that would make her feel better. I was honest with her about me and my friends reactions to the second shot (we all got Pfizer) and brought over 7up and crackers like she would do for me when I was a kid and would get a mild flu after my flu shot. Two days later I brought over champagne with my siblings because we all plus both our parents and grandma were vaccinated. It was an awesome moment.

Some people need a little extra love and care because they’re fearful and if we’re being honest, this virus has traumatized us in more ways than one.

I have a cousin who wouldn’t get the vaccine. Everytime she tried to make up an excuse for not getting it calmly told her the truth. I sent articles that were easy to read, we voice texted a lot, and then she eventually had to be honest that she was afraid. Once we got to that point, I then asked her “what was she fearful of specifically” the vaccine, the virus or both? She said both. I told her to 1) go to counseling. She needed to speak to someone professionally who can work with her anxiety and fear. I will keep encouraging her to do so. 2) She works for Kaiser. I asked her if there’s any doctor she trusts. She said yes. I told her to set up appointments with them and speak to them. She has 3 upcoming appointments.

I stopped sending her research, I stopped battling her. Much like with my mother, I asked her what made her feel safe. She isn’t vaccinated yet but all 5 of her siblings, her first husband and his family are and all of our cousins are. She also is on the verge of losing her job because she’s not vaccinated (which is reckless imo) and she works with vulnerable populations. I digress. What’s most important with family or people you love is to exercise grace, compassion and love. Mandates or not, c19 is here to stay and we have to figure out a way forward, together.

Wishing you and your friend well! 🖖

Yeah it’s fear. Period. Culturally we do not teach comfortably giving voice to fear. Unfortunate as it’s one of the most universal experiences.

It's getting so predictable now. Someone posts about covid and folks go wild on replies. It's ok, you won't be changing anyone's mind either way, why to waste time arguing on it? Like how folks use to claim, if u don't like the laws on guns, leave? Why not use the same logic on vaccine and move on? 90% of us are not even experts on it but will still comment on how this is a new vaccine so it clearly makes it ineffective (quoting times to get approval for other vaccines doesn't prove what you think it does, scientists learn and that helps save time ). Folks who got hammered every weekend or chugged on red bulls or monster energy drinks are now somehow concerned about what's in the vaccine? If you didn't question other vaccines approved by the same FDA but do it now, just accept that your opposition is more political (which is fine, just admit it) than anything else.

D2 why is Rage Against The Machine so good when rap rock is so objectively terrible?

Tell her get J&J which is a traditional vaccine. I'm sure she's up to date with all her other vaccines so that should solve the issue.

The most 'traditional' vaccine for covid is from Novavax which is not currently EUA is the US.

Is she really opposed to the vaccine, or was she not wanting to continue on as a dentist (because it was too hard, or not something she was passionate about), and saying she didn’t want to get the vaccine was an easy way for her to back out and blame it on outside forces?

Agree. It’s incredible to see the sense of entitlement in this post. I would seriously doubt the credibility of any current or future medical professional who doesn’t believe in medicine.

I have heard “anecdotal “ stories of adverse reactions to many vaccines, rarely are they actually worse than the disease they prevent. (Never).

I had an allergic reaction to the vaccine, though I sort of anticipated that. Talk to your doctor about anticipated adverse effects and see if there are tests to do in advance to check for those.

BAH3 the CDC reporting on “breakthrough cases” at a National level would be a great start but they made a call against that in January 2021 if I recall. The only stats we have on population mitigation are localized.

like

CDC just released this on breakthrough cases by Vaccine vendor and unvaccinated cases. Please note this is not from YouTube or some propaganda source.

During August and September, Covid was the #1 cause of death for people ages 33-54. The vaccine is not a trivial matter.

likefunnysmart

D3, COVID causes a host of conditions that can cause death in people who would otherwise not have died at the time they died, regardless of age or other comorbidities. There’s no difference between dying OF COVID vs. dying WITH COVID. If the patient would not have died absent the COVID infection, then COVID is listed on the death certificate as a cause of death. People don’t actually die of high blood pressure or obesity either - they die from the events caused by those conditions, such as strokes, heart attacks, or respiratory failure.

Much better to go for a walk through before you need it.... you can know where the ventilators are kept, and get your catheter put in, in advance.

A3 - if that’s true, then why have no studies been published that actually support the use of ivermectin as a treatment or preventive for COVID? Why is the manufacturer not jumping at the opportunity to sell the stuff, when for years they gave it away to NGOs trying to reduce the incidence of river blindness in sub-Saharan Africa?

My grandmother got the vaccine. She then developed vertigo and can no longer drive.

likefunnysmart

Sorry for your grandmother.

I can share I’ve had 2 unvaccinated colleagues under 50 die from COVID, and a half dozen hospitalized. On the other hand 5 vaccinated colleagues “shrugged off” breakthrough COVID in a few days.

And my 96 year old mother in law is excited for her booster this week.

It’s not 100%. Few things are in life

Stop trying to convince someone to do something they don't want to do. It's really simple, if you're no longer comfortable being that persons friend because of vaccination status, then don't be friends with them. Let them make their own choices and leave them to their own path.

Facts. If you can’t accept friends opinions and views then that friendship is on shaky ground.
