He is a chronic fraud. He will remain like that

OP the fact that he didn't update his linked in should have been the first indication

This is kind of crazy. Between all the friends and events that are made in the consulting world you could have simply figured this out. MBB is something you want to put on your LinkedIn page.

I knew a girl in high school who did the same thing when it came to college. Moved into a condo near the college and everything and then a year later everyone found out

You never saw his email or business card?

What did his linkedin say?

Wow - so what has he been doing all this time while 'traveling'

Get over it. Stop being his friend. He'll get his one day

A client once told me that about themselves. But in his case, he moved from MBB and was an 'associate partner'. Something never added up but when I saw his LinkedIn, he had a weird title before which I gather was the name of the project and in the description he wrote "working with a top tier strategy firm"... It was so weird.

Social currency. Secondhandedness. People who's sense of reality is from what others think of them. It's pityful.

@PWC1 Nope, never had a reason to see either. @D1 His LinkedIn hasn't been updated since college graduation.

How'd he get caught?

@PWC1 I was talking to a mutual friend who joined the same office. Happened to ask if he and the liar had ever worked together and my friend said that he didn't work there. We checked the database as well to see if the liar's name showed up and no record.

It’s baffling how many people set standards for what they want in a partner but never think about 1) their ideal partners’ desires, and whether they meet them, and 2) what comes with the territory when you have such a partner. It’s like if you’re a fat broke man, you have no business demanding your partner be a supermodel. And if you’re a woman wanting a very “ambitious” man, don’t complain if he not around the house to help coz he workin all the dang time! Don’t be that guy/gal/non-binary pal!
