Hi folks, how is thoughtworks as an organisation?
Asking because I don't know much about it and have received recruiter's call today. Currently I am working in Deloitte. How is thoughtworks hikes, wlb, does it provide any benefits apart from fixed pay? My research gives me a mixed review: some say it's good, some say that thoughtworks is not stable enough like big 4 or other organisations. Pls help Thoughtworks Deloitte
You should go to law school. It’s not too late.
Having a business background and a law degree is a good combination. If you get accepted to a top law school, can afford it and are still young, it isn't a bad idea.
1. They went to a way better school than you
2. They work way more hours
3. Accounting fees (and subsequently pay) have stagnated for many years
Stagnant fees = less qualified employees
Comparison is the thief of joy.
Sweet tea for you?
If you compare your income to a brain surgeon you'll instantly have a stroke.
But being a lawyer is miserable. Can you imagine redlining 600 page contracts??
Yes that's what the intern is for
Did the managers and directors go to law school?
Being a lawyer isn’t like suits, it is 80 hour weeks year round in big law. They earn a lot of money cause they have to buy expensive suits and take out 7 nights a week
Sounds kinda like suits

I make less than Matt Damon but for every Matt Damon there are a million people who couldn’t make it onto a direct to DVD film.
Would be interesting to compare hours and / or work life balance (not that pa is much better but some of my law firm buddies have some miserable times when cases come up).
I’d say the staff/managers doing the work (and often identifying and bringing it in for a passenger to sign an engagement letter on) are the one bringing in the money. Partners I’ve known often oversee portfolios (but in tax the work we have is annuity work and presidents and engagements are 3+ years at a time so little transition). Just giving credit and a little shout out to all below partner. And in tax there is some contingency with that brings in big bucks too, but I’d agree, in the legal world contingency fees and ‘awards’ for winning can be very fruitful.
I bet he has a ton of student debt too.
What I don’t get is how a lawyer makes that much but a doctor in residency doesn’t
A lot of school and a lot of hours to be paid less than an accountant is all I’m saying.
But a lawyer fresh out of school gets paid this salary?
Biglaw associate now, former accounting firm associate.
I dream of busy season at accounting firms now; would essentially feel like a slow period at work now, with a lot less brain damage.
Rising Star
Neat. And you make more than a fry cook starting pay. Do you think we should unionize across industries so all jobs have same starting pay regardless of education and market demand?
If accountants unionized management would be screwed
You don’t really get those positions unless you went to an Ivy League for your J.D.
Sounds like you are an auditor
It’s a bdo thing lol. I used to work there (in advisory) and the pay was below industry average. Work for another firm now (non b4) and got a 35% increase for a lateral move.
Look up lawyer bimodal salary on google.
Shouldn’t have studied accounting pal. Now get back to work. Those work papers aren’t going to complete themselves…
Facts, hence why the field is dying
Yup. My nephew barely graduated high school and lucked into some job selling heavy equipment and makes more than me with a masters degree and cpa. Unless you make partner or own your own firm you won’t see the big bucks.
Good point. I’ve been considering opening my own firm but then I consider I’d have to deal with everything I take for granted at a big firm - tech support, maintenance, cleaning, hiring, just sounds awful.
Some of the new BDO partners are making barely more than his $215. Maybe it’s just a bad firm?
Ya. The firm isn’t terrible but the pay sucked. I make more than that as an SM at a non b4. I used to work at bdo in 2022 at the beginning rumblings of the advisory turmoil (pre ESOP) and i was massively underpaid even then. From what I hear it’s even worse now.
Senior Managers make that much at other accounting firms. Not all, but there are some that do.
Also Big Law is soul crushing.

welcome to accounting. You probably make less than a lot of communication majors too
Maybe even art majors. Dying profession
