Q: for FAANG recruiters, do candidates get a reject stamp after failing even at the later stages?
I advanced to the last stage at Facebook (Meta) around a year ago but failed on my last interview, a combination of not being familiar with the process and not having chemistry with the interviewer.
A friend who is a hiring manager recently recommended me and this time without even a HR call I received a straight up thanks but no thanks email.
Does this mean I’ve been permanently black listed?

Minority candidates have been saying for years that recruiters were quietly suggesting they change their names to something less ethnic and remove multicultural work from their books.
You’re not seeing something new with the ageism comment, just a continuation of the trend of gatekeepers screening out talent the industry could have used years ago, who were never allowed the chance to flourish and make advertising better and more dynamic.
This might be one of the main reasons advertising is dying. All this white male under 30 inbreeding bullshit can only result in out of touch thinking. Dying breed. Diversify or die.
The Creative Groups, 24-7, Creative Circles have wrecked the industry. Gone are the days of the boutiques which had recruiters who not only could judge creative but really cared. I guess I am considered ancient even tho I don’t feel that way. But ageism is super real. And it’s due in part to Robert Half and these companies paying $35 an hour
These places will also say they’re looking for a CD with 3-5 years experience. That’s crazy. Three to five years is still just starting out.
As the years have passed I’ve come to see she’s not a very intelligent person & that has been hard on me. I can’t believe she’s the one that has been “judging” books all these years. She couldn’t come up with a strong idea if her life depended on it - I’m getting tired of people who say ageism doesn’t exist in this industry and it’s all about your attitude - the cd has won clios and one shows and everything inbetween- he’s brilliant - too old should never apply to him. It is VERY dangerous recruiters like this exist.
This is so true. There was a recruiter in 360i who used to be a copywriter and would talk about how recruiting and copywriting were kind of the same thing: "you're trying to find the right words, we're trying to find the right people" 😳🙄🙄🙄🙄 yeah dude. Keep telling yourself that.
OMFG I f-ing hate her. Cindy Gallop would have a FIELD DAY with that one. I’m in my 40s and I get ‘overqualified’ all the time as an excuse now, code for old. I had so much work just a few years ago I didn’t know what to do with myself. I have all the skills plus the gravitas. 😎Ageism is VERY REAL and it’s bullshit. I have so much to offer at this point in my career and no one to offer it to.
Totally get it. It’s true and this recruiter is a f#+#+#ing idiot. But you have to look in places that aren’t typical agency places. Look at companies and look at people who appreciate what you do. Solomon Page and that witch who always posts jobs and ignores people (You know who) is never gonna give you a job. Look a little outside the business and you’ll find your place. And it sounds like you deserve a good place to work. Good luck, and don’t give up. You know more than most of the posers that are out there now.
Why are creative recruiters 99% women who have 0 creative qualifications? 20 years of dealing with these fake, cliquey poseurs is giving me PTSD. How did this happen, and how do we make it stop?
To start with, why aren’t we changing the stigma around becoming a recruiter for POC? (it doesn’t necessarily fix ageism but it does bring in a diversity of experiences) I’m in MAIP (the Multicultural Advertising Internship Program) and even though recruiting was an option, I don’t know a single intern who is doing recruiting this summer.
Report her.
Report her. For all our sakes. You will be old one day too-hell we all will. This could be any on of us.
Ps SC1, Tootsie is one of my fave films ever 😘

You know what sucks most about that? A CD with that much experience and proven creativity and wisdom is actually really fun to work for, and they make the people under them better creatives. Clients like them too. The calmness and perspective that comes with time served is such a valuable commodity and yet we now have an entire generation in the industry looking at a void of mentors and vetted experience to really learn from. I say that as a CD myself who wishes there were more people above me and at my level who are a bit older to lean on for advice.
100%. That’s what I like to think I brought to my gig.
Report her to who exactly? I honestly don’t know how that works.
Just cull staff until you have 24 employees. Problem solved!
Yeah. But here is the thing that gets us all - HOW? Because it was said in real life - not on email. No way to prove. And that’s how people get away with this stuff.
You should definitely report her. It's the same as if she had said "too black" or "too Jewish" or "too gay"
Wow. That pretty much nails it. I’m 47 and am just starting to experience this.
So I guess this post was pointless. OP holds the cards, but won’t do anything or tell us which agency.
If she’s a friend, why not just sit her down and talk about it?? If you were to report her, isn’t there potential for her (or others) in the future to adjust their behavior out of fear rather than understanding?
I've worked in big agencies under ECDs who were 30-31 yo.
I've learned absolutely NOTHING.
This won’t help, but take it with a grain of salt and do what you CAN do:

(FYI - I’m still shooting surf photos from the water, so, I think most of my peers can still handle a desk-centric creative gig.)
