S1 and S&2, I think that is a bit of an oversimplification. Members of the US military volunteer to serve the interests of our nation directly and indirectly, by supporting our allies. They are risking their lives to do that.
I feel gratitude towards the members of our armed forces for choosing to risk their lives to help protect us.
Although it is true that we are not being invaded by a foreign army, our military are still actively protecting us in this country. For proof of this, you need look no further than Penn Station, Grand Central Station or Rockefeller Center in New York, where you will see uniformed military personnel who stand ready to be among the first line of defense against a terrorist attack. That is actual, not theoretical or symbolic.
@SC1 & PWC3. military are compensated minimally compared to other trades and sacrifice time away from their family to preserve the freedom of our great country. Their benefits are not even upheld through the VA services and for that we should show respect and honor while we sleep comfortably in our beds and eat hot meals wherever whenever. They eat in the fields carry 120 lbs of backpack and sleep in the pouring rain hot deserts and exposure to elements and diseases. Then add the cocktail of inoculations and post traumatic stress for those who are captured and tortured who actually survive and are recovered. Hmmm seems unparalleled in those various careers. SMH at the quick to not discern the distinctions and feel such entitlement. This post is about a choice and if you choose to justify your decision with all the facts then think again.
I don't get the military worship. Why not do the same for a doctor/paramedic/firefighter?
Whether you agree with it or not, that's a truly classy move.
Military service is one of the few jobs you sign up for knowing it's possible you will have to fight in battle, potentially be killed, potentially have to kill others. Taking that kind of risk to protect millions of people you will never even meet deserves extra respect.
Firefighters and police officers, etc. also take this risk, but they don't usually fly in their uniforms.
It's not military worship, it's respect. Land of the free because of the brave. Cops and firefighters deserve the same respect as well. They are the ones running into burning buildings and dangerous situations while the rest of us are running to safety.
Nope
Because they risk their lives !!!!!! (all 2% of them that see actual combat lol, enlisted bro is probs like "lol this rich dude gave me his seat and all ive done is Basic and they're putting me in Germany for a year")
Damn right #alreadyproud
A4, I must've missed the memo about that when I went to Fallujah back in 2006.
The military is just another welfare system but with more glory
Op/up voters would you do the same thing?
"Land of the free" is the country wth highest encarceration rate in the world? Salute to that...
It's a bummer to see this post went negative so quickly! For those of you curious of the outcome, the soldier politely declined the invite, but was extremely thankful. To the naysayers: respect isn't a zero sum game... Just because you're for soldiers doesn't mean you're against anyone else (soldiers, police officers, etc). My reason for posting this was simple: seeing fellow Americans (and citizens of the world for that matter) build each other up rather than tear each other down was refreshing, and I certainly hope I see a lot more of it going forward!
Ugh OP why did you even have to post this? Every time someone does it gets bombarded with anti-military service comments and ruins it
A4, that is false
KPMG 3 thanks for your service
👏🏻😍 happy Monday America! You're already amazing! Oh .. and thanks for taking a shot at admitting me as an immigrant 20 years ago. you changed my life :)
For the few haters out there, you've obviously never been deployed on Christmas, your daughters birthday and missed a family member's funeral. EVERY service member I know, myself included has missed something because of 'the mission' - and very few will ever ask for special treatment. Let him fly first class because it's possible the next aircraft he flies in may have web-seating and will need to make a combat approach to keep from getting shot down into some POS airfield somewhere
Well without the rest of us we'd be living in huts with no infrastructure :)
Consultant 1 probably couldnt do 10 pushups and would shit their pants if they got dropped into basic. Go away you useless troll and dont shit all over this post.
Cops/firefighters risk their lives too, do they deserve the same?
