A junior asked me if I want to do her work because she has already hit the target… it’s probably because of my babyface…

Am I being too easy-going with juniors?

like

It's prob the junior lacking common sense

like

Or maybe it was a sincere offer to give you some easy work to help make target in case you were behind.

like

A4, I’m not saying the pro bono client is not real client; I am saying that for pro bono client, our firm is using this to train juniors so that they don’t need to worry about the hour budget. I was assigned as a trainer for her. In contrast to the client who pay attorney fees, I would not even bother to ask her to do the work; I will just do it myself. And that’s why I’m upset when she said that to me. Bottom line, my well-intentioned training offer was not appreciated, so I guess she can get training somewhere else.

That was a well-intentioned offer and I would consider her a good colleague, even if what she’s offering is a little embarrassing

like

FWIW, I am hitting my target tomorrow. I don’t need the “well-intentioned” offer. I didn’t say I need hours.

Hi! First time working with a larger company - suggestions on handling pronouns at work?

I’ve worked with smaller agencies where it was easier to bring up. Now I’m on a larger team, talking to/referencing people I’ve never met. I’m less concerned about my own pronouns and more concerned about how to make sure I’m using the correct pronouns for the people I work with.

I’ve been structuring sentences to avoid gender specific pronouns but would love to hear suggestions. Thanks!

My organization absorbed another and the former deputy PM became a branch head - a demotion. For org was more focused on tech dev and not delivering a product on a sked. New org is very focused on that. He is not a driving leader, but is the only one with the tech knowledge needed. He is retirement eligible. He has no heir apparent - previous org didn’t plan that way. If I move him under someone who is a driver - he retires and I lose the knowledge. If I don’t, we may not meet schedules. Advice?

My boss the general manager is setting me up at work. She is saying all this stuff about me that is not true at all. But when I come into her shift or come into my shift after hers nothing is done for me. A lot of the prep is not done. And she complains about me not doing the prep. Stuff Is still dirty. One day she left the grill on. Etc. There was another manager there training to run another store and she said I basically do a lot of the work while she doesn't do much. So she stood up for me.

need advice.

I have been working in an interim role as a portfolio manager. I was promised that the role would be mine. However, after doing the job for 2 months, I have been advised that we might not get the funding for the role and I might not get the raise and the title but my responsibilities will be the same.

Its a political minefield.

How should I back out elegantly that I need to be compensated fairly and competitively from this mess without burning any bridges

Hi. People Manager here. I've been one for 12 years now and I encourage my team to not be "yes" people. At this time, it feels like my manager wants me and my team to be yes people for her. How do I deal with this? I've never been a yes person and I don't preach this to my reports. I don't know what to do. Help?

I've been thinking about my career a lot lately. I feel like I've hit a wall, and I don't know how to get past it.

I've been at this job for almost 5 years now, and ever since the day I started, there have been problems with my coworkers. It's not just one person—it's everyone in my department, and they all seem to be working against each other instead of together. Should I leave?

Hello RSM coworkers! I am thrilled to be moving to RSM into a Scheduler roll. I just found out yesterday and want to be as prepared as possible in the next steps.

So here are my questions.

How long does the background study take? I'm guessing admin staff have a study that is faster and less complicated than someone in Tax ect.

When training at home what did you need that wasn't supplied by RSM? My home office is well stocked but I want to be as prepared as possible.

Thanks in advance!

I've been working here for about two years now, and I have to say, I love my job. The company culture is great and the people are wonderful to work with. But recently, I've noticed that my manager has been asking me to do more and more work on my own without giving me any additional compensation for my time. He just keeps telling me that if I want to get ahead, then this is what I need to do.

I'm not sure what to do here—do you have any advice?

This is a genuine question for people in Texas: what do you view as the role of state government? I ask because it seems like Texas can’t manage it’s own electrical grid system, yet, I would think this is one of the most fundamental and basic aspects of state government. Texas has been on notice for extreme weather since the snap freeze, even if you think they shouldn’t have prepared. Meanwhile Texas has made no preparations for a hot summer but has passed how many bills about the culture wars?

All through my time coming up through law school I had people talk about “make sure to befriend the paralegals,” “the paralegals know more than most attorneys,” etc. However, in my experience, paralegals and other support staff are pretty much useless for doing anything besides the very narrow house of tasks that they do every day. They push back on asking them to assist with anything else and are generally very unhelpful. Is the “helpful paralegal” meme just a myth or a memory from decades ago?
