When I was at Ogilvy London they had separate bins for recycling. But if you spoke to the cleaners they would tell you that all the waste goes in the same big bin when it leaves the building. Ogilvy didn’t own the building, but putting out the bins made employees happy & stopped them complaining.
I feel like the same thing happens with female empowerment. The visible initiatives are there, but deep down it’s still the same old shit.
The quotes from female leaders they are posting on social media and in the NYC are absolutely laughable. "If you’re not having problems, you’re not doing it right." Ummm if I’m having problems at work because I’m a woman, THAT’S the problem.
My agency posts all about equality and diversity but when it actually comes down to it they don't give a fuck about it. Opportunistic at best. 🤬
my personal favorite is the production shops with 90% white bro FT staff posting photos of
all female freelance project teams touting their diversity and commitment to women. SMH. its all PR until there are FT hires, promotions and salary matching. Not to mention retention signalling a supportive/non-abusive culture shift. until we see those actions its all bullshit.
That’s what we do though, talk a big game.
Another good one: "Don’t be afraid of standing for what you believe in even if that means standing alone." Ugh
👆🏽What Creative Lead 1 said. 🔥
Alternate thought. You are right to be skeptical. But perhaps reach out to said leader at your org. Tell them you’re happy they participated and that you’d love to know Ogilvy’s plan to implement at an office level. Volunteer to be involved to help make sure it happens.
when i was being discriminated against and my career stalled by Ogilvy's former male CPO, the company paid to have Cindy Gallop come speak. This is while HR was ignoring numerous discrimination complaints from female employees against several male leaders. so yeah its all PR and optics.
I don’t think the NY event is sold out. They’re just waiting to see how many people sign up to plan for the right venue. That’s what I’ve been told anyhow as some folks signed up as soon as it opened and we’re on waitlist.
Ladies, the NY event is so exciting. Let’s ask all the real questions IRL and call out the BS. 🤨
Btw, I got to peep at an agency Bowl and real honest shit was going down there. HR and C-suite were responding to the concerns of employees. It was amazing. Communication and transparency for real. So, that can also be a platform to share thoughts about stupid agency female empowerment campaigns when they don’t do shit internally. 🙌🏼
