Hey Big4 fishes, especially at SM/Associate Director level!
Someone I know has been interviewing for SM/AD roles in the non-strategy business consulting verticals of the big4. They are looking to make an upward move (from M to SM) and two of the firms have given them feedback saying while they love the profile, they see a better fit at M since this person doesn’t bring selling capability.
Personally I call BS on that feedback but thought of checking with others. Views?

Totally agree with SM1. I finally am in a job that has it and I am so much sharper, happier and a better partner to my husband. Recognize the difference though between a busy time and overall trend. If it’s a trend or the norm LEAVE
Nooooo it’s not. Find a job where you get it and your life will change.
Thanks for that. I’ve been with a handful of the big agencies now and it all seems to be the same: swirl, churn, lack of proper management, sole focus on billability regardless of impact to employees. In the end it makes me feel dead inside and hard to do great work when I’m jumping from one project to another nonstop for 12 - 15 hours a day with no time to think strategically about anything, let alone use the restroom...
Not to mention clients thinking we are magicians at the same time.
One day...
“No time to think strategically about anything, let alone use the restroom.”
There were times I literally took calls from the can on mute because my bandwidth was so high.
Now I’m in house.
Be the change you want to see. Change your calendar “available hours” to when you want to work. Schedule recurring invites for your travel time to/from office, your xx min lunch, etc. Change it up like schedule calls during your drive time (if you can), do WFH one day a week, delegate, enter your time and project your time accurately and use it to demand more support, say no to additional work, etc. Not all of these things work for everyone, but you gotta try whatever you Can in our industry to make it work for you.
Easy advice for anyone to give. Never easy to actually do, even as a senior person.
