I feel like a broken record telling patients to not believe what they read online
It's wild. So frustrating but I've even seen some of these claims on healthcare-focused news sites.
Zinc deficiency will impair macrophage functions through dysregulation of cytokines production, intracellular killing and phagocytosis. Deficiency is fairly common, estimated at 20% of population. 30-50mg good dose for daily supplementation. If not deficient, supplementing likely not helpful.
We’re literally on a zinc shortage at my hospital.
There is some language out there about Zinc lozenges and the immune system perhaps this what patients are referring too..
