Just try to talk about it with him. He might think he’s being a bother to ask and is being “helpful” by doing it himself.
Agreed with AD1. This can likely be solved with a 5 minute convo and there’s no need to bring CDs into it. Just approach him with understanding, say you get why the copy needs to be changed at times to fit the deck but you’d like to be the one making those changes. If he keeps doing it after that convo, then bring CD into it.
He also only makes eye contact with my male creative partner in meetings, and goes to him for copy requests. My partner and I both do copy and art – we’ve been copy leads and headed up art direction on projects at previous agencies. The designer is a Senior and we’re Mid. Is he power tripping? Is it unconscious bias? Would love advice on how to deal with this. Thanks.
Ask for the deck ahead of time, so you can proof it. Highlight the parts that changed. Then send it back to him for revisions.
Perhaps he’ll learn to start getting it right the first time.
It sounds like he’s territorial of the work and dismissive. If he’s unwilling to make eye contact in the first place. You could speak to your CD to help you understand what the expectation are on specific decks. Tell him/her from your past experience on project and you would like to remain invested in the work.
Or, since this seems to happen a lot, ask for the deck before you write copy so you know how much is needed.
I do that. But considering I write the user journey which is the focal point, he should create enough slides or space to allow for it rather than cutting because he doesn’t want to make another one.
