Listening to the client call is part of the apprenticeship nature of this career path. It’s supposed to help you learn how to handle calls like that on your own in the future. Also, if the manager wanted you on for another set of ears, that means he or she wanted someone listening to make sure everything was captured and documented correctly. Some clients have been known to say one thing on a call and then contract it later, so if you have two people who say “I was on the call and heard the same thing” then it’s harder for them to do that.
The call was part of your job responsibilities so I am not sure why you felt like you had to work extra to make up for the time you spent on it.
