A more specific follow up from earlier post. And thanks to everyone. I am going to be starting a specialty consulting business with a colleague and will immediately hire one salaried employee. We will have enough revenue and want to offer full benefits and 401k, for owners also. I talked to TriNet (suggested here as a good PEO) but they need a minimum of 5 employees. I would like to have someone manage payroll, benefits, and 401k. Any other suggestions?

I know Vensure used to offer single employee plans, but I don't know if that still happens or not. They did it in partnership with a defunct Staples program in a Massachusetts test store.

I’d recommend getting your practice going with 5+ 1099 employees for at least a few months before you start spending money on benefits and even payroll processing.

Fishies, I need your help. I received an offer for $160k from guidehouse. I’m currently paid $133k at EY. I don’t particularly love my practice as it is testing and the new practice with guidehouse would be IT strategy. EY has gotten me comfortable with the reimbursement for fitness, phone and internet and the promises from Kelly Grier of “really good bonuses and raises” this year. What would you do?
