A partner said to me "Your generation just doesn't care about making money"

Was this a micro aggression? Lol. Obviously laughed it off but did feel a little uncomfortable. Thoughts?

I love when they get threaten by not being able to control the next generation

He’s saying he wants his associates to bill hrs in quest for a big bonus and forget about things outside of work.

Could also be a more macro comment. For YEARS I though my job was to do good work. That was dumb. My job is to support and maximize a revenue stream by efficiently meeting client needs. I think it really changes your game to let that click.

like

@A4 commentor is probably patent pros which is flat fee. So worst of all worlds.

If the only incentive is money - how does he make himself feel better that there are a bunch of younger people making more than him?

like

Sorry? Not sure I get what this means

Wtf is a microaggression?

You should have said “and your generation doesn’t care about having a life outside of work or mental health.” Lol different broad strokes for different folks.

like

Does how you feel about the interaction change based on what category (e.g. microaggression) you assign it? You felt a little uncomfortable, just take that fact without having to label it.

like

Could mean a lot of things. Younger lawyers are like aliens in some way even to people just 10 years older.

like

Younger lawyers have different views than many older ones. So the statement could have been intended in several ways. It could be a dig. It could also have been a compliment.

He’s right. They are struggling because we care much more about QoL than money, at least once you hit 300-400k salary levels. So many of us see diminishing returns over that amount and don’t want to work harder for more. I don’t want or need 3 vacation homes so what would I even do with $2 million annually? FIRE stuff even shows you that you can retire early on a counsel salary.

The BigLaw model starts to come under pressure when you don’t have tons of money-motivated people. So it’s frustrating for the partners because they don’t know what to do. I look forward to seeing how it ends. 🍿

like

I don’t think it was a microaggression. I mean it’s an oversimplification but I don’t think it’s wrong to say money isn’t the primary concern beyond the bill paying point.

My manager asked me to ask less questions. Lately I am receiving negative feedback that I find unfair. I've a different perspective and this request doesn't go with my personality, my role and with the fact that I am working remote. I am very independent, but I need validation on final things I do as I am not a manager plus, I am a curious person who likes to interact and to learn more. For me questions are a way to improve and to find new perspectives. This makes me feel sad and not motivated

Hello! This is a long story, so I’ll try to keep it brief. I work for a very small supplement company - it’s myself (marketing/acct mgmt) my coworker (sales), and the owner. My coworker is struggling to complete his tasks/meet his goals, and the owner is coming to me about angry clients. I’m afraid my coworkers inability to complete his duties is somehow being reflected onto me? What’s the most tactful way to have a conversation, either with him or the owner? Since then I found out l my boss has been talking badly about me in the middle of the office to other employees. What you should do when dealing with a very toxic worker that keep on sending passive aggressive messages to you as well as in group chat and email.
Things like when you answer his question he respond: I know that
Or when he keeps on saying my change requests were just minor in group meeting but actually not.
And keep on saying how hard he works when he clearly wasn’t and already underperformed compared to an intern level.

How to not let this toxic co-worker not poison me any further?

I hate my project manager. They constantly get credit for my work, don’t pay attention in meetings and leave early.
Today they literally asked me what the roadblock was 30 min after we got off a call that they were on their phone the whole time during. Then they were asking when everyone’s flights were because they wanted to leave early but didn’t want to be the first to leave since they’re staying the weekend and they then just up and left at 2pm. It’s ridiculous.

This fight has gotten real! I’ve been offered a job, advertised as remote, but they want to have a blended program with teachers on campus. Small school, 10-15 to a class... maybe, masks ( I’ll have to ask if they’re mandatory), distancing and a continuous cleaning staff. Sounds great but I’m 62 with 5 underlying conditions! Have to negotiate a contract Monday... I’m hoping I’ll be able to work on-line as NV is one of the growing hotspots in this Pandemic!
