A Principal once told me: "Leave consulting as soon as you can, otherwise you'll be stuck here for a long time, this is not a life you'll love" Opinions?

I am just an analyst, my life is certainly not easy but it is not that bad. But what I see my managers and senior managers endure, that scares me lol

I don't think my clients who are at my level (SVP and up) have a better WLB. They don't travel as much but the stress from politics, intensity, constant focus on results, etc. are actually much worse. So I think I'd agree with your Principal only if your desired life doesn't include increasing responsibility (and increasing pay). Like most jobs, consulting becomes much more enjoyable once you have "figured it out." I have a lot of professional autonomy in what I do and how I do it and I absolutely love it.

If you value time (with family/friends, enjoying hobbies, relaxing, etc.) far more so than money, your principal is right and vice versa. If you value them similarly, you're like most of us and have to personally decide which you'd rather sacrifice. I would love to be a 1%er but am not willing to make the temporal sacrifices required, so I'll eventually leave consulting for a less demanding job and settle with being a top-10%er.

I enjoy where I work and don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. Grass is greener mentality is one I try to avoid 🤷🏻‍♂️

These partner comments are insane. I’m leaving and my offer in industry is more than junior partner money. No weekends. No late nights unless it’s my choice. Also, those SVP peers are for sure making more than partner money.

Exactly, they’re indoctrinated

Very happy with my life. And grass doesn’t seem so green when talking to friends in startups / industry Is it always easy? No. Am I happy with where I am professionally but also personally (fiancée, friends, family, holidays)? Hell yes

Applying for a couple of things and randomly decided to google myself to see what recruiters might see. Had helped a friend out way way back with a school project and came across her blog post about it on her personal website in which she says the reason she asked me to help is because she trusted my opinion since I am a “harsh critic.” I think she meant keen critic or that this was supposed to be a positive but to me, this reads as an insult (continued in comments)

Small firm reached out to coordinate a potential part time or per diem role and they wanted to coordinate an in person interview about a week and a half ago noting that it's phase 2 and they are in office...would have been a 40 min subway right and then no clue if masks would have been honored. Was it wrong to say Sorry don't feel comfortable?
