A recruiter just reached out to me about my dream exit ... but I’m going on pat leave in 10 weeks. How do I approach this? When/how do i disclose for timing?

Don't bring it up. Get hired for the role and negotiate the start date. They can't discrimination based on this. Also 10 weeks is nothing. The interview process may take many weeks.

likehelpful

It is very likely that they just started the process which can take weeks plus you don’t know if there is any issue in pushing the start date. Go for it. Lots of luck on both fronts and enjoy;)

like

You don't even have the offer yet, or even an interview based on what you stated. Do not disclose until you have an offer in writing. Tell them you can start "when needed" if they ask about start date before the offer stage, but asking is unlikely.

like

Oh I mis read that. Fyi I know many folks who joined Google and went on leave for 3-6 months immediately.

like

I say go through with the interview process and everything, but maybe at the last round disclose it. For me worst case even if I get turned down because of my leave, the fact that I was able to score my dream job but couldn’t take it, still makes me feel a little better about myself.

P.S. I feel like there is a very tasteless abortion joke that could be inserted to this post.... jkjk, much love! :)

Just going to add make sure you’re aware of your companies policies when it comes to leaving after taking Pat leave. For Deloitte as a reference you’d have to return to work for 30 working days for them to not claw back paternity leave benefits and the like

5 months passed between my first contact with recruiting and my start date. A week or two passed between each interview, then another week or two for offer negotiation, background check, start date.. all dragging out the process without really feeling like either party caused a large gap

When I read this I thought you said Mat leave. I was jumping in here to say how TF you plan to hide that through interviews! 😂

Pretty easy to hide pregnancy when most interviews nowadays are via phone or video.

like

In the same spot! But mat leave is in 10 weeks for 12 weeks off. I’m just going to go with the flow, who knows if we’ll even get it. Maybe they’re willing to wait!

So I’m having my 3rd interview on Thursday with a company that I previously interviewed with for a different role that they ended up going with an internal candidate after it came down to he and I. Im meeting with the person who would be my boss, who I had met with before and the recruiter is saying it’s just so we can reconnect and discuss the role in more detail. How should I approach this meeting?

So, at my workplace (university), we're essentially eliminating any full-time position if it's not currently filled. Which, I get it...we're going into a retrenchment period...but I think someone to run the tutoring center (for example) is one of those positions we might want to fill and not eliminate, you know? Anyone else running into situations like this? Are you feeling the recession pressure?

Hello all,

I'm currently employed by EY. This is the last year of STEM OPT and my application was not chosen in the H-1B lottery.

One of the options is working for a non-profit organization that sponsors H-1B Cap Exempt visa.
Q. Is it recommended?

If any of you work for a non-profit, please leave a comment or DM me with a referral. I am open to work as a data scientist/data engineer. I am open to relocation.

Appreciate any help. Thanks

Just hit my first major milestone since starting FIRE and can’t share it with anyone I know. I increased my net worth 100k a year, on a 100k total salary, thanks to intensive saving and good investments and am proud of myself. I’m hoping with FIRE I can be out of the corporate rat race in just over a decade.

Would love any thoughts. I’m almost 6yrs in Accenture as a Management Consulting manager, worked in the telecom industry for the last few years and have mainly focused on CX/business process improvement. I’ve found lately that when I look at those managers above me/the execs we report to, I don’t necessarily envision myself wanting their jobs. I can’t tell if it’s the hours, the client bootlicking we end up doing, or just the need to try something new - but I’m not loving the idea of staying.
