Does anyone have experience with Ben Glass’s “Great Legal Marketing” programs? https://greatlegalmarketing.com
I ordered a free “starter kit” from his company and received a decent-sized box with some books and audio CD’s. Haven’t listened to the CD’s yet, but the books aren’t bad, with plenty of practical advice.
Now he’s running a promotion where you can get two months of his basic-level course for just $19.95 to cover the cost of shipping. It seems that Ben is one of the better-regarded legal marketing “gurus” out there.
You can cancel, just say you've reconsidered and don't want to use up anyone's valuable time.
Agree with this. Just be honest if you already know it's not a fit. Otherwise, you might feel even more torn or pressured after meeting them (if you like them, of course). If you already know what's best for you, follow your gut.
I wouldn’t for that much of a salary cut, unless WLB is a huge factor for you and would justify the cut
I could dump some work and do the 1,700 hours as my primary job if I could keep something else, but I doubt they would let me, and it’s 3 days in-office, so would make splitting time hard. The origination fee is 20%, but I don’t think my gig clients would follow me to a firm. They want a fractional GC, not another law firm to worry about.
I cancelled the interview. Honestly I don’t even have the time or energy and I signed a new client yesterday and negotiated a rate increase on another today, so I’m maxed out for next year - hopefully.
Good for you. It's hard to turn down companies that provide interesting opportunities, but taking a potentially 50% pay cut is NOT worth it.
That is a big pay cut and quite a large salary range. You may want to interview but probably not a good fit
I will not go for it, if you ask me. You said it yourself, you'll be just wasting everyone's time. Just make an honest and polite response that you are declining.
Recruiter scheduled interview because that’s how recruiter gets paid
She seems somewhat inexperienced
I’m in the exact same boat. I have done some initial phone/zoom interviews with a couple partners at the firm, but they want to move on to in person interview with several members of their team. It would also be 3 days in office, 1700 hours, and base around $250k.
Slightly off topic but could you talk about your gig work? How did you set up?
It’s all friends of my original startup CEO, related companies, investors or former coworkers. Essentially I made the jump to in-house and when that company failed I gained alot of contacts of local CEOs who wanted work, former employees who were going off to do a new venture or investors in that business. I’ve followed those veins through the years. All personal contacts and recommendations and people who just really like working with me.
No. Not worth your time, OP. You are making more than what they can offer.
