I would ask how old the child is and remember some the children are built like adults (size wise)
Call the local Children’s hospital Physical Therapy Department or local Outpatient Physical Therapy and ask to shadow to get a better feel or comfort with working with Children.
Good Luck and remember you have the knowledge of doing this. Experience will come.
I think most clinicians would be fine. It’s most likely neuro and can be applied regardless of the patient age. The trick is the interactions. Autism can be tough.
I would go for it. That is alot of money to turn down.
I would ask more about the child’s condition & then research. In our organization a lot of staff shy away from treating kids with complex cases in the outpatient setting simply because they’re unfamiliar with it but if they do have to treat the patient they’re shocked to find out they can pull from their current knowledge & apply it.
Also, my organization is looking to hire Physical Therapists if you know of anyone looking!
There are some Medbridge courses for school based physical therapy which can be helpful.
I don't think the tough part is working with kids, but rather knowing what is expected with school-based PT compared to typical outpatient.
If you’re willing to put in the time and learn then do it. I did school and clinic based PT right out of school and learned from older PTs in the field and did my own research. This was to manage almost 100 school kids, co-sign PTAs, and manage half a caseload in clinic. I did it. You can too for 1 kid. I did all that for much less than what you’re getting paid for too. Good luck!
