Both. While it might inspire younger women that they can have it all, it might impact the poster. Men having families has always benefited them at work and in their public image. It makes men more responsible, more trustworthy and more reliable, according to society. Not so for women. Don't think that's going to change any time soon, or ever. No amount of equal paternity leave, or equal pay, etc will make up for the biological impact that growing, birthing and having a child will have on a mother's brain, her health or her time. Pregnancy brain is real. Mommy guilt is real. Health issues are real. Women willingly and rightfully putting their children over their career is real. Men stepping up because they have more mouths to feed, more college to pay for, or more sense of manhood is real. How this varies individually will be different, but broad strokes across society, this is still the perception and often the truth. Just my opinion as a career oriented, pro-strong women, pro-equal society, non-men-hating mom.

It may cause people to think a woman is not invested in her career, but it is up to us to begin to do that, so that we can begin to shift org culture. For example, everybody and their momma at my job knew my daughter had rehab appointments, 12 appointments a month. They also knew that I loved my job and gave it 110% of me. When my daughter appointments increases from 12 to 24, because the school district decided to add 3 a week as well, I gave my boss my resignation notice. My boss, a woman, did not accept it. She wrote a business case for me, so that I could work from home, pre-Covid. To this day, I still use her as a reference, as I grow in my career. I would rather show up with my kids and have them be in awe of me, then to hide my kids. I hate bias in the workplace.

You’re reading too much into it! You do you and if you have strong results, no one will GAF.

Depends on the company and messaging from the top. In an old school culture or if leadership has less progressive beliefs, this would unfortunately be viewed as a negative. If respected leaders at the top are doing it, would then be viewed as more acceptable. Love the idea of doing what you want and not caring, but org culture may not make it worth it…

If a company judges you negatively because you have a photo of you and your kid as company picture then this is not a company you want to work for. In the last 20 years, I’ve worked for 5 different companies of different size and culture, not one of them judged me or think less of me because I proudly display a family pic. My last employer is in traditional sector (publicly traded with international presence in 15 countries), when the SVP-Controller found out that my 3rd grade son was in the office with me, he invited my son to join our small team meeting. He said to my son “you have a wonderful mom who’s super smart and hard-working.”

uplifting

We need more leaders like this. These are priceless words for an overwhelmed mom and will stick with her forever. A+

I’ve had a picture of me and my daughter as my google picture since we first got google several years ago. Not one negative impact that I can see.
