Sorry to hear about your father. Hope mom and baby are doing well at least.

Thoughts and prayers for your Dad, OP. Congratulations on the birth of your second child. I wish you strength and serenity.

Unimaginable OP. As someone who lost his father to a heart attack this past year, do spend time with him while you can. Wish you the best.

Take care of yourself. Balancing these extreme highs and lows can have huge impacts on your well being. I had a very similar three weeks this summer and - not joke- came down with an autoimmune condition not long after. Take care of yourself!!!

That is a whirlwind of emotions, I'm sorry they all landed in similar span of time.
As everyone has been saying, take care of yourself and lean on your friends and family for support when you need it. Allow yourself moments to experience the joys currently in your life and know that you can do so while still keeping for dad in your thoughts.

Take care, these are times when u need to be closer to your people.

Thanks all. We will push on. The wedding this coming weekend will be therapeutic maybe some of you fish Bowlers will actually be there.

One other suggestion I'd have is to utilize meditation for even 10 minutes per day. Many apps out there but it MAY help in clearing your mind and de-stressing. See what works for you!

Sorry OP. Prayers to your dad.

I feel so far behind all of my non-lawyer friends. Everyone is getting married, having babies, and buying houses, and all I have is esq behind my name... I feel like my career is my marriage and my baby, and my student loans are my house payment... anyone else feel that way? Also, if anyone used to feel that way but dug themselves out of that whole, any advice?

Serious question - is there a reverse FIRE strategy? I like the idea of saving and retiring early, but the one hiccup I see (and sorry if this is grim) is if you die earlier than expected. I’d be worried that I would minimize lifestyle and fun for retirement at 50 but I’d die at 49. How about a way to work 9 months out of the year and retire/travel/relax for 3 months? This way you guaranteed your dreams/etc. are fulfilled

Now that I’m happ(ier)[still in my learning curve!], have switched lanes and am making a plentiful salary—due to the confidence boost from this site, my S.O. is now exhibiting the same “symptoms” as I was while I was with my former employer (I was formally state government & fed up—not even miserable).

My SO is an attorney of 8 years. First seven was healthcare/medical malpractice sort of stuff. Towards the end, HE HATED IT. LOATHED IT. This was also when COVID hit. He hated it SO MUCH

Less than a year before I can retire and not sure I can make it. The stress at home, work and with the aches and pains of my 54 year old body are taking their toll. I have almost 2 years of gap in my career due to medical issues, but not its recovered and I am trying to rejoin again. I applied to so many places but has been seeing only rejections either due to gap and either due to my over qualification.
I am truly tired of applying and waiting for their call back and reverts, Its like getting into depression slowly slowly.
Is their any place where I can get hired soon. Please help me.

I’ve been asked to weigh in on how to improve my firms parental leave policy. It’s currently 8 weeks paid for birth parent with an extra week for each year at the firm (up to 12 weeks total) and 2 weeks paid for non-birth parent. I’m in a major city, firm is a boutique that has been around a very long time. What would you suggest? Any studies or research you’ve seen recently on trends in parental leave policies also helpful. I’d like to have some sort of data to back up what I recommend. TIA!

Does anyone know if we can reimburse expenses for items listed in Wageworks while on maternity?

I know we cannot expense phone/internet/ commuter benefit as I am not actively doing work.

However, for other items that fall under wage works reimbursement, I couldn’t find anything in writing yet.

So here is my dilemma:
- based in the UK
- opportunity for lateral internal move (culture&engagement) or stay where I am (reward). I am mid level IC struggling to progress due to flat structure so considering lateral move then hopefully up from there.
- 2 primary aged children, currently have flexibility in current/new role too
- Husband just got accepted on a international rotation which means I will be single parent for the short term.

What to do? Go with the unknown or coast comfortably?
